Nevada game wardens are seeking information about a bull elk that was poached and left to rot near the Pearson Ranch late August in Lincoln County. Operation Game Thief is offering a $2,000 reward to help catch the shooter.

When we went over Carson Pass on Highway 88 at 3 p.m., the temperature was only 42 degrees. That is a definite change of seasons and also the time of year when some lakes open and others close for the year.

Hello fellow anglers, the weather has cooled down a little and the fishing has started to pick up around the area. Last weekend I took a trip early Saturday morning up to the East Carson River above Markleeville.
The mornings are cold, but warmed up about 7:30.

I fished a few long stretches of the river I have never fished before. I tip my hat to the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission. I just picked these spots at random because of the way they looked, Like something out of Field and Stream magazine.

When Sen. Dean Heller, Sen. Dianne Feinstein and California Gov. Jerry Brown all met up on the shores of Lake Tahoe for their annual Tahoe Summit, attention started with protecting the deep, blue waters of the pristine lake. But this year, attention turned quickly to wildfire.

“Lake Tahoe isn’t going to be blue if the forests are gone,” Graham Kent, director of the University of Nevada, Reno’s Nevada Seismological Laboratory, said. “You actually want to keep the Lake Tahoe Basin green — and protected from wildfires.”

Carson City sheriff’s deputies were called to a Mayflower Way home late Thursday after a domestic disturbance call involving an intoxicated man who allegedly threw a bread maker at his girlfriend and kicked a roommate’s cat.
What made matters tense was the reporting witnesses told dispatch and officers that the man had guns in the home and they were concerned he would use them.

A man reported missing at Lake Tahoe since August 13, has been found alive, according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department in a statement Tuesday.

After receiving several tips from people having seen reports in the media, investigators have made personal telephone contact with Zbigniew “Zibi” Moryn, who is safe, and currently in Missouri.

Four remote mountain peaks in central and northeastern Nevada are home to a new real-time camera fire-detection system that is helping to protect Nevada’s forests and rangelands.

A Bureau of Land Management Nevada grant awarded to the University of Nevada, Reno to develop, install, and maintain a remote camera system, is in the initial phase of a five-year planned comprehensive network to cover vast areas of the state for early fire detection and response.

Half a mile in elevation above lake shore is an easy, handicapped friendly hike less than two hundred feet below one of the highest mountain passes in the entire Sierra Nevada range.
Resting a little below the crest of the Mount Rose summit on Nevada State Route 431 lay a lovely, picturesque alpine meadow near timberline level. In late spring and early summer, Tahoe Meadows is awash with a kaleidoscope of colorful wildflowers and robust green grasses.
Trail terrain is largely flat unless you extend your hike to nearby alpine lakes. Then expect to do some heartier mountaineering.

Hello fellow anglers, there are only two things that make me extremely angry, and I experienced both of them this last week. While fishing last week, I met an angler with a limit of nice rainbow trout.

Later one that same morning I saw him fishing again in the same spot catching more fish. He had taken his first catch home and returned the same day to catch more fish.

A disbarred attorney arrested in South Lake Tahoe has been accused of kidnapping 29-year old Denise Huskins of Vallejo, Calif., on March 23, the FBI confirmed Monday.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested Sunday in the area of Hot Springs Road on drug and burglary charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. A 34-year-old man with her was also arrested on a felony drug charge after methamphetamine was discovered in the vehicle he was driving.

Sunsets of orange, purple, red, and fuchsia are commonplace if we happen to look up at the right time. Where did June go? It’s already the 29th, and Independence Day festivities are coming up fast. Talking about time flying, it was 40 years ago that Steve Wozniak tested his first prototype of the Apple I computer. Personal computing has never been the same. It’s not National Apple Day (although those who stood in line for the first iPhone release eight years ago today might disagree), it’s National Camera Day. Find your favorite subject and snap away.

A fire-spotting camera network operated by the University of Nevada, Reno is tracking the Washington Fire south of Lake Tahoe with two of its mountaintop cameras. The first wisps of smoke from the fire were seen on the cameras at 3:50 p.m. on Friday, June 19, one hour before the smoke was reported to fire officials.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested Saturday on felony charges including burglary and crimes against an elderly person after she allegedly stole a purse belolonging to an 85-year-old woman who was shopping inside Walmart, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Arrested was Jacqueline Cunningham of Elko. According to the report, Carson City sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street regarding a larceny in progress.

A 19 year-old Carson City man, Alejandro Rios-Geurrero was arrested Saturday at 5:12 p.m. in the 2100 block of Highway 50 East on suspicion of two felony counts of burglary.

A Carson City man was arrested Thursday in a pharmacy parking lot on suspicion of felony DUI, that, if convicted would be his fourth, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant said.

Marco Mendez, also faces six misdemeanor charges, including improper display of license plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, no insurance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license and violation of a suspended sentence. His bail has been set at $23,210.
