Casino Fandango, the largest casino in Carson City, opened its doors at 8 a.m. today. As announced by Gov. Steve Sisolak, Phase 2 of Nevada's Roadmap to Recovery allows gaming to resume Thursday.

Nevada's economy was one of the most affected in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic; the initial reopening of Casino Fandango means that over 350 team members are able to go back to work and provide for their families.

After the statewide shutdown in March due to COVID-19, Carson City area casinos are preparing to return to business this week, joining dozens of casinos in northern Nevada as they are set to resume operations on Thursday, June 4, the first day gaming establishments are allowed to reopen.

On Wednesday, the Nevada Health Response Center (NHRC) released the COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Initiative listing of essential services and sectors and non-essential services and sectors. The release includes social distancing measure.

In reaction to problems encountered in Iowa, the Nevada State Democratic Party has made significant changes to how their presidential precinct caucuses will be conducted on Saturday, February 22nd, as well as at the early voting sites through Tuesday the 18th. When half the cast of “Murder on the Oriental Rug” bails out, the remaining performers are stuck playing all the roles. During the first act, you’ll meet a Shakespearean actor with a drinking problem, a washed-up former child star, a bimbo with a short memory, and a hapless costumer who finds herself onstage — playing a man.

It is one thing to study history; it is another witness it. Visitors to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City this Tuesday, Feb. 4, will find themselves in history’s front row as the museum celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint. Just as it did 150 years earlier to the day, the Mint’s Coin Press No. 1 will be pressing silver coins, complete with the famous “CC” mint mark.

Six teams of Carson City area filmmakers are making romance short films in one week. The films will be screened starting at 6 p.m. with buffet dinner, 50/50 raffle and an "It's a Date" teaser on Friday, Feb. 14.
