Jim Peckham, Executive Director of Friends In Services Helping (FISH), will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon.

Rural Northern Nevada’s largest and most complete social services program, FISH provides food, clothing, shelter and medical aid to the homeless, hungry and underemployed within our community, with the objective of helping families and individuals become self-sufficient.

The Carson City Historical Society will hold their annual Holiday Party at the Bliss Mansion, located at 608 Elizabeth St. on Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 1 to 3 PM. A light buffet lunch will be catered by A Catered Affaire, consisting of salads, sandwiches and desserts.

Robert Nylen, Curator of History at the Nevada State Museum will give an informative talk on The Carson City Mint Building: A Community Icon – approaching 150 years old in 2020.

There will also be a report on the activities and accomplishments of the Carson City Historical Society for the past year.

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor Veterans, past and present, at our November Meeting. We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Captain Robert Wiley, Retired, who was the first Master of the USNS Carson City, T-EPF 7.

Nevada's celebration of statehood provides for a bevy of activities that showcase the Silver State's best. This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, at Carson City's Round Table Pizza, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway. An all-you-can-eat buffet lunch is available. Holly Welborn, Policy Director at the ACLU of Nevada, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. She will speak in opposition to Question 1, the Marsy's Law Crime Victims Rights Amendment, which is on the November ballot as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment.

A “no” vote would retain existing victim rights added to the Nevada constitution by a 1996 ballot measure in lieu of replacing them with a more extensive list of victim rights and specific enforcement provisions together known as a “Marsy's Law.”

Carson City Sheriff Kenneth T. Furlong will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. He will speak in support of Question 1, the Marsy's Law Crime Victims Rights Amendment, which is on the November ballot as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment. A "yes" vote supports the addition of specific crime victim rights, together known as a Marsy's Law, to the Nevada Constitution.

According to the calendar, summer is coming to a close but South Lake Tahoe is refusing to acknowledge it. Tahoe South will host a magnitude of events extending the season from Labor Day into October with entertainment, culinary festivals, music, outdoor recreation, competitions and a lakefront laser show.
