Washoe Lake State Park celebrates return of 'Trail of Lights: A Drive-through Holiday Celebration'

NEW WASHOE CITY — Enjoy some holiday cheer at Washoe Lake State Park with a sparkling drive-through festival of lights. Campground Loop B will be decorated with a jolly display of twinkling lights and holiday scenes.

Stay warm and merry as you listen to your favorite holiday music while driving through the campground, enjoying the cheerful decorations. Vehicle clearance is limited to nine feet, six inches (9’6”). Participants will stay in their vehicles as they drive through the loop. Drivers should be prepared for congested traffic and a long line at the park entrance.

WHAT: 2nd Annual Washoe Lake State Park Trail of Lights: A Drive-through Holiday Celebration
WHEN: Thursday, Dec. 9 through Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This program will run for four nights.

WHERE: Washoe Lake State Park Campground Loop B. Take Highway 395 south from Reno through Pleasant Valley. Turn left onto Eastlake Blvd. and drive south seven miles. The park entrance is on the right. Turn right and follow the signs for Campground Loop B. Please use caution, as the road is very dark at night. Horses and deer frequently cross Eastlake Blvd.

WHO: This event is open to the public and is hosted by Washoe Lake State Park.

COST: The park entrance fee is $5 per vehicle for Nevada residents and $10 per vehicle for non-Nevada residents. There is no additional charge for this program. We can accept cash, credit cards, and checks.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Wednesday night to the 3500 block of Highway 50 East near the Phillips Motel and Mobile Home Park for a travel trailer on fire.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - It took 65 years to get to this day and for most of those days, Glenn Lucky has been feeling pretty lucky. His positive attitude and determination have been inspiring others around him.

UPDATE 446PM: Forward progress on the three fires has stopped and no other fire department engines will be needed. There's a total of 1/2-acre that has burned with firefighters now mopping up the hotspots, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.

Carson City Fire Department was called Wednesday afternoon to the area of Highway 50 East between Deer Run and Drako Way for a brush fire.

Please come down to Telegraph Square, behind Battle Born restaurant, this Saturday, Sept. 30 to help out a local friend of Carson City who is battling Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Mark Linquist graduated from Carson High School in 1987 and still lives in the area.

UPDATE 2:19PM: The fire has been contained. Engines are being released, however the water tenders will stay in place for now, according to a Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief on scene. The equipment that caught fire is cooling down with water being used to douse the hot spots.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Wednesday afternoon to the 8000 block of Highway 50 East for a structure fire at an asphalt plant.

The Sierra Inline Hockey League in Carson City was one of six organizations to receive a grant through the Save Mart Companies CARES Foundation, the company announced Wednesday.

An 18-year-old cashier at a sporting goods store was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misdemeanor embezzlement after allegedly stealing $457.45 in cash and merchandise, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Caretaker Eric Anthony Buhl pled guilty Tuesday in Carson City District Court of first degree murder in the death of 2-year-old Coanuyana Hernandez. Sentencing will be on Jan. 17, 2018.
