CHS Theatre updates Lewis Carroll classic with original 'Alex, Through the Looking Glass'
Carson High School Theatre will feature the production of "Alex, Through the Looking Glass" a modern adaptation of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Alice, Through a Looking Glass" adapted and written entirely by the Carson High School Intermediate and Advanced Theatre Students to include some of today’s modern social issues.
Performances of "Alex, Through the Looking Glass" will run Friday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Brewery Arts Center Maizie Harris Jesse theatre located at 449 W King St, Carson City. Admission is free with a donation to the families of the Nov. 9 vehicle accident on Kings Canyon Road.
Alex, Through the Looking Glass is inspired by the original Alice story, but is told through the eyes of Alice’s younger sibling, Alex.
Written by the CHS Theatre Arts students, Alex follows their infamous sister through Wonderland, exploring social issues many teenagers face in today’s world such as suicide, anxiety, mental illness, drug abuse, and gender identity. Through their trials, Alex and Alice discover the power of love and acceptance to heal even the deepest of wounds.
Directed by senior Charlie Moser and junior Angela Cirone, Alex, "Through the Looking Glass" features the talents of more than 20 Intermediate/Advanced Theatre students both onstage and off.
“In our ever-changing and often frightening world, our students have a lot to talk about,” said CHS Theatre Arts instructor, Andie Wilkerson. “By giving them a chance to create their own characters and stories, we empower them to explore the issues that matter most to them and express their ideas in creative, productive ways.”
