Carson City Boy Scouts honor fallen veterans with cemetery service project
On Sunday, Nov. 18, Carson City’s Boy Scout Troop 341 completed a service project as part of Daniel Nellis’s Eagle Scout project. This project took place out at Lone Mountain Cemetery with the goal of honoring the dead, specifically Veterans.
Participants set out to fix overgrown and sunken Veteran’s graves. Adults and scouts removed the headstones and applied dissolved granite or DG to build-up the gravestones and level them out.
After leveling out the headstones, the group removed grass from around the headstone and applied DG as a buffer to prevent grass from re-growing close to the grave markers.
The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department would like to extend our thanks to the group of 30 volunteers for putting in their time and efforts to complete 65 Veteran graves. Thank you Boy Scout Troop 341!
A special thanks goes to Daniel Nellis for his time and efforts in working with our department to complete this much needed project.
