Quad County, Carson City COVID-19 weekly update: 6 deaths, 287 new cases and 242 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is providing the Quad-County community with a weekly update for the week starting November 11 and ending November 17, 2021.

COVID-19 Case Update
For the week, CCHHS is reporting 6 deaths, 287 new cases, and 242 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 21,110, with 16,015 recoveries and 367 deaths; 4,728 cases remain active.

Carson City had 3 deaths, 114 new cases, and 91 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 10 new cases per day with a 5.4% test positivity rate.

Douglas County had 1 death, 64 new cases, and 64 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 9 new cases per day with a 15.3% test positivity rate.

Lyon County had 2 deaths, 105 new cases, and 84 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 11 new cases per day with a 12.2% test positivity rate.

Storey County had 4 new cases and 3 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 21.3% test positivity rate.

COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of November 17, 2021, approximately 202,996 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers.

CCHHS has administered 73,056 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Approximately 86,055 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 94,753 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna.

This number also includes those who completed the series). Data is not CCHHS’ and is taken from the Nevada Health Response Dashboard which can be found at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/

In Carson City, 33,047 residents have been completely vaccinated and 36,256 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 65.5% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Douglas County, 25,159 residents have been completely vaccinated and 27,662 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 57.1% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Lyon County, 27,063 residents have been completely vaccinated and 29,961 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 53.2% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Storey County, 786 residents have been completely vaccinated and 874 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 20.3% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

Quad County Breakthrough Cases
Vaccine breakthrough cases are individuals who testing positive for COVID-19 more than 14 days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, out of the total population in the Quad-County region who are fully vaccinated, approximately 1,552 people out of 100k are cases and approximately 10,557 unvaccinated people out of 100k are cases.

Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen booster doses are available for those who are eligible. Pediatric Pfizer available for those ages 5 to 11 years.

COVID-19 Testing
Due to a drastic decrease in demand, CCHHS will be suspending COVID-19 testing. This includes community-based testing and testing onsite at CCHHS in Carson City. COVID-19 testing resources are available throughout the community.

The NVSTY Car Club of Carson City held a car show today in Mills Park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., showing off their rides, talking mechanics, and overall having a good time with friends.

This workshop will introduce you to the magical art of Easter Egg painting, using a wax resist dyeing process.

A donation from the Rotary Club of Carson City has allowed Carson City to purchase five bus shelters for the Jump Around Carson (JAC) transit system. This $3,000 donation serves as the critical local funding required to leverage an existing federal grant for the purchase, which totaled $40,000.

The second annual Kids to Parks Day was a jam-packed day full out outdoor activities at the Silver Saddle Ranch on Saturday in Carson City.

To celebrate Kids to Parks Day, children of all ages got the hands-on experience of outdoor recreation and safety through several informative booths and exciting activities around the ranch.

The University of Nevada, Reno through the weekend will be conferring 3,201 degrees, the most degrees ever distributed in one semester.

Due to inclement weather, all ceremonies were moved to the Lawlor Events Center instead of the University’s quad.

Carson City, Nevada – The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department is in the process of making improvements to the Prison Hill 5th Street Trailhead which is located on the north end of Prison Hill at the corner of 5th Street and Carson River Road.

It was a celebration unlike any other for family and friends of Western Nevada College’s Adult Literacy and Language program honorees on Thursday night at the Carson Nugget Hall on the Carson City campus.

The AL&L program honored an outstanding group of High School Equivalency recipients, National Adult Education Honor Society inductees and College and Career Transition students to salute the transformation in their lives through a return and embracing of education.

A "field trip" for those interested in birding is being held today at Silver Saddle Ranch, hosted by the Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch and the Lahontan Audubon Society.

The Carson City Junior Ranger Program educates youth about the environment, fosters a sense of community, and encourages life-long environmental stewardship. Throughout each year's Junior Ranger events, children will fill out their educational Adventure Guides at each program as they learn more about the outdoors.

In what is sure to be the cutest production of the season, The Little Mermaid Jr. is hosting auditions today at Western Nevada Performing Arts Center as a part of Youth Theater Carson City.

A 52-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the area of Condor Circle Thursday afternoon for domestic battery.

The woman was arrested after deputies responded to the residence on the report of a domestic battery between a man and his daughter.

At the Leisure Hour Club’s May 15 meeting, the club installed officers for their 2019-20 year. CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City Triad presents “Get Your Ducks in a Row – Legal Documents Every Senior Should Have” by Colby Prout of Nevada Legal Services Tuesday, May 21 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

Participants who attend will learn about intestate succession, small estates, will basics, avoiding probate and will be provided with information about powers of attorney.

A celebration for Washoe Valley Day hosted by the Washoe Valley Alliance will be held at Washoe State Park tomorrow, Saturday May 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and park fees will be waived for the festivities.

Carson City’s own Friends In Service Helping unveiled the new Crisis Cab on Friday morning along with breakfast.

The Crisis Cab is FISH’s transport vehicle, which will be used to transport those in crisis to Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center, a department of Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare.

A Carson City man was arrested in the 3100 block of Debbie Way Thursday morning for a DUI causing death warrant and failure to exercise due care warrant.

Mark Riesen was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the residence to complete a warrant service.

Both warrants were issued out of Carson City Justice Court on May 1, 2019.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Bail: $30,000

— A 40-year-old Silver Springs woman was booked on two additional warrants while in custody at the Carson City Jail.

On May 11th the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada completed their first Adopt-A-Trail clean-up at Carson River Park.

The group walked from the parking lot to the fishing pier, focusing on micro trash along the trail and in the parking lot.

They picked up 23 pounds of trash. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada for participating in the Adopt-A-Trail program and completing their first clean-up!

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Artist Patricia Wallis has a background in plein air and aerial painting, having spent much of her 30-year career in Marin County, Calif.

Moving to Reno, she found a completely new palette of color in the landscape. Another change she made in in the past decade was a decision to work exclusively on copper, which gives the image a unique luminescence not found when working on canvas or board. Oil painting on copper goes back to the 15thcentury although it is rarely used by contemporary artists.
