What Works: 3 steps to change your energy and mood right now
I went to a photo shoot yesterday and, when I arrived, my mood was rotten. I felt disconnected. I felt stiff. I started wondering what was up with all the other people around me. Then I recognized the problem. I wasn’t managing my energy or mood. I wasn’t feeling. I was letting the feeling take me. That’s when I decided to use some tools, which I am excited to share with you today.
You can watch the video below or go here.
1. Get real. How are you feeling?
Quite often when we are feeling something we don’t want to feel, we try to squash it. We figure if we just put on a happy face, as the old song says, we can fake it until we make it. Here’s the deal. That emotion is still there. Unless you verbalize it or get real with yourself somehow, it’s going to resurface until you pay attention to it. In this case, I just told the ladies. “I’ve been through a lot lately. I feel a bit shut down.” The feeling had voice. Now, I had a choice.
2. Choose how you want to feel!
That’s right, I said choose your feelings. When you choose to shift, your energy will follow. I decided I wanted to feel love. I wanted to feel connected, happy, and full of joy. I wanted connection. To jump start that connection, I shared how I wanted to feel. Did you know when you share what you want, others support your effort?
3. Take action.
It’s hard to change your emotions and energy when you don’t have the tools to do it. So, I’m going to give you a few tools. Two of them are in the video below. Here are some more.
Want more energy? Bounce! That’s right. Bounce. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Do it 10 times. It’s an energy boost.
Want to feel calm? Close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Say to yourself the word – RELEASE. This is Brendon Burchard’s release meditation. Google it and practice it when you want calm or you want to release stressful energy.
Want to connect? Ask a question. Use your body to lean in. Look at the left eye of the person you are speaking with. Mirror body language. Smile.
At the end of the day, your energy and mood are your choice. Try doing something new. Try not reaching for coffee or ice cream for a boost. There are a few other tips in the video, so be sure to watch it. If you want to learn more, connect with me at www.whatworkscoaching.com
