Carson City's annual 'Turkey Drop' collections Thursday at Carson Nugget, Friday at Max Casino
The Salvation Army and Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, are separately accepting frozen turkeys and canned items to be distributed to those in need for Thanksgiving.
The original “Turkey Drop” had been done by Mike’s Pharmacy, which has since closed. Now, several Turkey Drops are taking place to help lift the community and fill the stomachs of people in need in and around the Carson City area.
Thursday at Carson Nugget Casino
On Thursday, Nov. 16 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. FISH will be accepting turkey donations at the Carson City Nugget, 507 North Carson Street.
FISH will also have provided the option of donating $10 to go toward purchase of a turkey. See the website link here or call 775.882.3474 (FISH) and donation scan be taken over the phone. Evans Broadcast, KKFT/KCMY/KRFN/KWFP, will be broadcasting live 6:00 am - 6:00 pm at the Carson Nugget on Thursday, November 16th.
Meanwhile, FISH has partnered with the Carson Nugget to provide a hot meal to an expected 800 people at the Nugget on Thanksgiving Day.
The Salvation Army, Max Casino at Wyndham Garden Hotel, and Black Bear Diner are all accepting turkey donations.
Friday at Max Casino
Drop off a turkey on Friday Nov. 17, beginning at 6 a.m. Participants will receive $5 free slot play at Max Casino, and may attend a silent auction. News Talk Radio KOH AM 780 will be on location broadcasting live, as well. The casino is located at 900 South Carson Street.
Additionally, Black Bear Diner and Max Casino will host two breakfast sessions Friday; 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. with a $20 ticket purchase. Tickets are on sale at Black Bear Diner inside Max Casino. All funds collected are donated to the Salvation Army.
Alternatively, the Carson Mall is collecting food items Thursday for Thanksgiving baskets that will be distributed by FISH. Bring any food items, but especially needed are:
— Mixed Fruit (canned)
— Green Beans (canned)
— Corn (canned)
— Yams (large and small cans)
— Gravy (envelope: chicken or turkey)
— Broth (chicken)
FISH also prepares holiday baskets filled with the traditional items and is seeking donations of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, canned fruit, canned vegetables, gravy and dessert so that every family has the opportunity to celebrate with family.
Non-perishable Donations can be made Monday through Saturday at 10126 U.S. Hwy 50 East, Mound House; 1561 Hwy 395, Minden and/or at our main location 1601 North Carson Street in Carson City.
