Carson City sheriff’s weekend log: felony fugitive warrants, battery and DUI arrests made

A 53-year-old Carson City man was arrested for a felony fugitive from justice warrant alleging lewdness with a child that was issued out of Napa, Calif., Superior Court, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Roy Linn Tidwell Jr., was taken into custody Thursday, 4:43 p.m. at an address in the 200 block of Pine Lane. According to the arrest report, deputies assigned to the Special Enforcement Team went to the address to serve the arrest warrant.

Carson City SET deputies were alerted that Tidwell had an active felony warrant, issued Oct. 10, 2018, alleging lewd acts upon a child, the arrest report states. The warrant was issued out of Napa County, Calif. Detectives located the man at the address and placed him under arrest where he will be extradited to California for a hearing. Bail: $250,000.

In other arrests:
— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 2:24 a.m. in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway for active felony fugitive from justice warrants issued May 3, 2018 out of Mendocino Superior Court.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to Carson Tahoe Hospital to transport a man who was brought in for an alcohol abuse assessment. After running a wants and warrants check on the man, Fred Gene Freddie, dispatch advised he had two extraditable felony warrants out of Mendocino, Calif., for failure to appear in a battery case that resulted in substantial bodily harm. He was arrested and taken into custody. Bail: $205,000.

— A 37-year-old Reno man was arrested early Sunday, 2:08 a.m. in the area of East Proctor and North Plaza streets for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI.

According to the arrest report, a deputy observed a white SUV in the area reverse southbound on North Plaza Street toward Proctor. North Plaza is a one-way street and only allows for northbound traffic.

The officer made contact with the driver who stated he was backing up to his friend’s vehicle in order to drop her off. While speaking, the officer observed the man’s eyes to be bloodshot and watery and his speech slurred. He was asked if he had been drinking, and the man stated he had 2-3 beers at a bar.

The man agreed to participate in field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .120 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he submitted to an evidentiary breath test with results over the legal limit. Bail: $1,137.

— A 29-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 4:02 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Edmonds Drive for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued April 4, 2018 out f Sparks Municipal Court. Bail: $865.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man as arrested Saturday, 10:14 p.m. in the area of Lepire Hill in Moffat Park for a misdemeanor warrant issued March 19, 2017 out of East Fork Township Court. Bail: $238.

— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:03 p.m. in the area of Carmine for misdemeanor suspicion of driving without a driver’s license, improper display of license plate, warrant violation condition suspension, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report a deputy patrolling the area saw a pickup without a license plate attached. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was unable to provide his driver’s license, registration and insurance. The man stated he just purchased the vehicle and doesn’t have a driver’s license or insurance on the vehicle. He was asked if there were any drugs or illegal items inside the vehicle. The man hesitated and stated there were needles and a spoon inside the vehicle.

He stated the items did not belong to him. The man allowed a search of the vehicle. The deputy found three needles and a spoon with cotton balls on the spoon. The officer took the man into custody.

Dispatch advised the man was on probation with the Department of Alternative Sentencing with an “obey all laws” condition. DAS was advised of the circumstances and placed a violation of bail conditions hold on the man. Bail: $2,401.

— A 20-year-old male transient, Cameron Rey Weiss-Karm, was arrested Friday, 2:25 a.m. in the 2700 block of Menlo Drive for felony parole and probation violation. According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the area for a report of a drug overdose.

Upon arrival the deputy assisted Carson City Fire Department with the male who was overdosing. One of the subjects on scene, Weiss-Karm, stated he was one of the people to find the male overdosing on heroin. After a wants and warrants check on Wiess-Karm, dispatch advised he was on parole and probation with several conditions, including not to consume alcohol or marijuana.

There were open containers and marijuana pipes within the residence where Cameron was. He also admitted to consuming alcohol and marijuana prior to arrival. He was advised of the probation violation and taken into custody. He’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.

— A 49-year-old Carson City man, Norman Dean Davis, was arrested Friday, 10:41 p.m. in the 7000 block of Fleischmann Way for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and the following misdemeanors: Violation of bail conditions, an NHP warrant, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area regarding a man who was swinging a golf club in Treadway Park just east of the Mallory Center. Upon arrival officers made contact with the man. He was asked if he had been drinking any alcoholic beverages.

The man replied he had. A records check indicated the man was on Department of Alternative Sentencing with a “no alcohol” clause. He also had a confirmed day only warrant out of East Fork Township. He provided a preliminary breath test in which he blew a .051. DAS was advised and the agency required he be taken into custody for violation.

The man was taken into custody. During a search the deputy located a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine in his right front sweatshirt pocket along with a small metal container in his right pants pocket. A deputy opened the small container and located residue of a white powdery substance inside of it which tested positive for methamphetamine. Bail: $6,812.

— A 40-year-old transient, Christopher Aiello, was arrested Friday, 2:38 p.m. in the area of Biltmore and Mayflower streets for felon suspicion of being an ex-felony in possession of a stun device, misdemeanor suspended license and a misdemeanor warrant issued out of Virginia City.

According to the arrest report, a deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team was riding as a two man unit. A deputy observed a vehicle without having a front license plant that failed to use the turn signal as it turned west onto Champion from Mayflower.

The deputy identified the driver and knew he had a suspended license. A traffic stop was conducted. There was a female passenger who was the owner of the vehicle who had allowed the man to drive.

A K-9 drug detection dog, Ivo, conducted an exterior search of the vehicle and alerted on the vehicle. A deputy conducted a search and located a stun device in the driver’s side door next to where the man had been sitting and another stun devise in the center console.

The man is an ex-felon and cannot legally possess a stun device. Dispatch confirmed the man’s driver’s license was suspended and also advised he had a confirmed warrant out of Virginia City Township that was signed on Oct. 25. He was taken into custody and to jail. Bail: $21,527.

— A 42-year-old Silver Springs man was arrested Thursday, 3:43 a.m. in the 1900 block of Hamilton Avenue for suspicion of gross misdemeanor destruction of property, and three misdemeanors: contempt of court, and two counts battery. The destruction of property and battery charges were made as citizen arrests.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the area of William and Saliman streets for a subject reportedly throwing rocks at a vehicle. The subject was described as a white male adult wearing a camouflage jacket and being on a white bicycle. The reporting party was a security guard with High Sierra Patrol.

Upon arrival of the area, the security guard informed the deputy the suspect went north on Rand Avenue. The deputy checked the area and stopped the suspect who identified himself. A records check showed he had a misdemeanor warrant out of Sparks Justice Court for contempt of court. The man was taken into custody on the warrant and read his Miranda rights. The man was asked if he threw any rocks at any passing vehicles. The man denied throwing anything but stated that he did fake like he was going to throw rocks.

A deputy spoke with a driver from Capital Cab who stated his vehicle was hit by some rocks. He stated that he and his passenger were also struck with rocks. Both the driver, passenger as well as the security guard all wished to press charges and completed citizens arrests forms. The cab driver also listed that his vehicle was damaged with several chips in the paint and windshield. The vehicle was photographed for evidence.

Upon a second interview, the suspect admitted to throwing rocks at the cab. He stated that he was upset because he felt as though the cab was following him but had no further information to support the accusations. He was taken to jail and booked. Bail: $5,231.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.

With Nevada’s primary elections approaching, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reminds community members that political signage is not allowed on state highway property.

The application deadline for Mile High Band Association’s 2024 Jazz & Beyond Festival art contest is Friday, May 31. Northern Nevada artists, including teachers and students are invited to apply, and participation is free.
