Union Carson cuts ribbon on new downtown restaurant venture
Although it has been serving customers since June, The Union Carson opened with little fan-fare until Thursday night when a ribbon-cutting and grand opening bash was held at 302 North Carson Street as a fundraising benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and The Greenhouse Project.
Co-owners Mark Estee, Mark Trujillo, Executive Chef Tommy Linnett and General Manager Nick Meyer cut the ribbon Thursday evening before a cheerful crowd enjoying samplings of some of The Union's signature eats.
Thursday's celebration also featured a fully operational coffee bar in the rear of the restaurant adjacent to the back patio and facing Curry Street.
The Union's coffee house section is the second of a three-phase operation that features a restaurant, coffee bar and brewery.
Although there has been a full bar serving since June, the brewery where craft beers will actually be produced is the last phase of the plan.
Estee said the brewery should be operating later in the fall, only brewing beer served in-house.
“Carson has such great energy, such a feeling of community," said Estee, an executive chef who also owns Chez Louie inside the Nevada Museum of Art as well as Liberty Food and Wine Exchange both in Reno. "We have been welcomed and feel right at home here as we work with other local restaurateurs to elevate the food scene in our state capital.”
The Union is a partnership between Estee, Trujillo who owns Hub Coffee Roasters in Reno, Vast financial services CEO and Founder Tanya McCaffery, Linnett and Meyer.
