Carson City arrests: Inmate faces battery by prisoner charge
A 50-year-old Carson City Jail inmate faces a felony charge of battery by a prisoner following an incident Saturday, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Darron Thomas Phillips was booked at 5:36 a.m. According to the arrest report, an inmate informed jail deputies he was assaulted by Phillips. A review of surveillance video showed the two having a heated exchange, with the victim tilting his head and making a hand gesture.
Phillips struck the inmate in the throat with a clenched left fist holding an inmate spork, according to the arrest report. The suspect was interviewed and admitted striking the victim. Bail: $20,000.
In other arrests:
— A 23-year-old Carson City man, Harley Dean Rough, was arrested early Monday, 2:04 a.m. in the area of Fairview and Roop streets for suspicion, possession of a controlled substance-meth, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and a violation of suspended sentence warrant. Bail: $3,000.
— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 5:28 a.m. in the 2700 block of Panamint Road for a misdemeanor domestic battery warrant issued August 24, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A 24-year-old Reno woman was arrested Monday, 1:54 a.m. in the area of Highway 50 west for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and obstructing/resisting arrest.
According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the location for a vehicle on fire.
A deputy arrived and found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. It was extinguished by Carson City Fire Department. Upon contact with the driver, a deputy could smell an odor of alcohol coming from the woman. She said she was driving and her car caught on fire. She refused to participate in standardized field sobriety tests. She did provide a preliminary breath test resulting in .178, the arrest report states.
She was placed into custody for suspicion of DUI. When the officer attempted to place handcuffs on the woman, she resist arrest. She remained uncooperative and combative with deputies at jail. A search warrant was granted by a judge for a blood draw. Bail: $1,759.
— A Reno man, Douglas Clay Nicholson, was booked into jail Sunday, 10:15 a.m. for a felony possession of stolen property warrant and misdemeanor violation of bail release conditions warrant. He’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
— A 32-year-old Dayton man, Donald Lee Davis, was arrested Sunday, 8:14 p.m. for suspicion of felony parole and probation violation. He’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
— A 44-year-old Carson City man, Joel Martin Smith, was arrested Sunday, 12:26 a.m. in the area of North Plaza and East William Street for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $4,637.
— A 54-year-old Carson City man, James Timothy Mortensen, was arrested Sunday, 3:18 a.m. in the Brunswick Canyon area for felony suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
— A 43-year-old Reno man was arrested Sunday, 2:08 a.m. in the 200 block of West Winnie Lane for a misdemeanor warrant for Esmeralda Township Court issued Jan. 3, 2017. Bail: $400.
— A Carson City man was booked into jail Sunday, 10:15 a.m. for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Oct. 4, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A 34-year-old Gardnerville man, Brandon Newberg, was booked into jail Sunday, 4:45 a.m. for a felony warrant out of Reno Township Justice Court, and a misdemeanor warrant out of Tahoe Township Justice Court. Bail: $11,000.
— A 31-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 4:52 a.m. in the area of Telegraph and Plaza streets for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued out of Washoe County Justice Court. Bail: $500.
— A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 6:55 a.m. in the 4000 block of Village Drive for two outside agency misdemeanor warrants. Bail: $1,025.
