Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through Oct. 12

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 6-12, 2014. The Nevada Department of Transportation will be continuing road work on Highway 50 from Arrowhead Drive in Carson City to Baldwine Lane in Mound House.

There will be single lane closures on weeknights from 1 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. in the westbound direction and from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. in the eastbound direction.

— Motorists should be especially cautious in the morning and afternoon hours of Wednesday, Oct. 8 for International Walk to School Day. Walking and bicycling to school events are planned for Carson City and Clark, Washoe, Douglas, Lyon and other counties.

Lane closures are expected with minimal delays due to utility work on the following roads:
— Thursday, Oct. 9, on G.S. Richards Boulevard just south of the roundabout.
— Friday, Oct. 10, on Panamint Road just north of Knoblock Road.

There will be utility work on roadway shoulders in the Lakeview area south of Hobart Road during the weekdays. No delays are expected.

There will be work primarily in the shoulder of the following roads Monday through Thursday. Minor delays are possible.
— Fifth Street from Hidden Meadow Drive to Fairview Drive.
— Hells Bells Road from Fifth Street to Parkhill Drive.

Street sealing will continue during the daytime hours on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the following locations:
— Fifth Street between Saliman Road and Airport Road (20 minute delays expected).
— Firebox Road from Saliman Road to the east end of the roadway (road closed).

In Douglas County, Kingsbury Grade (SR 207), closed since September to through traffic as part of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s Kingsbury Grade Pavement Reconstruction Project, is scheduled to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 7. Construction work will continue on the project over the next weeks.

The roadway will open to through traffic at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday following two construction closures in May and September which closed the grade near the summit. The through traffic closure was originally slated to end in mid to late October.

Elsewhere at Lake Tahoe and the Sierra through Oct. 11: State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $41 million project from Tahoma to "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2016.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Wilson Avenue in Tahoma to Ward Creek: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday until 6 Friday for pavement work and landscaping.

State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $4 million project from the "Y" junction of State Routes 28/89 in Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows Road making drainage and slope corrections on about a 4-mile stretch of Highway 89. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Fairway Drive in Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday and 6 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday for drainage work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $20 million water-quality project from 0.1 mile north of the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct No. 5 in Emerald Bay to the Meeks Creek Bridge in Meeks Bay. This project is adding new drainage features, curb and gutter in some locations, and resurfacing a nearly 7-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected in fall 2015.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Meeks Bay Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday 6 until 11 a.m. Friday for paving work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. The project will install curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.
One lane in each direction of the highway will be open during construction. Work is ongoing from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays through at least Oct. 15.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $15.3 million water-quality project from Johnson Pass Road to Incline Road in Meyers to install new drainage systems, widen shoulders and add bike lanes in one section, and restore a section of the exiting bike path.

Oct. 6-10
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Johnson Pass Road to Sawmill Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to noon Monday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to noon Friday for drainage work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $15.1 million project to replace the bridge over Sly Park Road in Pollock Pines. The project will also add sidewalks to both sides of Sly Park Road, curb and gutter and curb ramps. Completion is expected by spring 2015.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Sly Park Road: Westbound motorists should expect the on-ramp closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Saturday and the off-ramp closed from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through Saturday for bridge work.

Highway 50 is reduced to one lane in each direction in the project area.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Lardin Way to Jeffrey Lane in Carnelian Bay: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for utility work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Schnell School Road to Carson Road in Placerville: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures at various locations from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday for pavement work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Balbijou Road to Fairway Avenue in South Lake Tahoe: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work on the city street.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from the Truckee River Bridge ("Fanny Bridge) to Granlibakken Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for crack sealing.

State Route 267 (Nevada County) from junction with Interstate 80 to Soaring Way/Brockway Road: Motorists can one-way traffic control from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday through Saturday for bridge work.
