Carson City's Capital Ford fundraiser generates $6,000 for Carson High athletic programs
With a goal of 300 drivers, Capital Ford's Drive One 4UR School was on par Saturday to raise $6,000 for Carson High School athletic programs.
More than 300 Carson City residents took a test drive of 12 Ford 2010 and 2011 model cars and trucks at the Carson High School parking lot Saturday to support the girls soccer and basketball teams.
"Carson City once again continues to show its true spirit as a community by getting behind fundraising events such as Drive One 4UR School," said Tim Milligan, general manager for Capital Ford in Carson City.
Here's what some of the test drivers had to say about Saturday's event:
Gary Kidman, Carson City:" I came out here to do two things, watch my niece play soccer and to test drive the new Mustang to show my support to Carson High School.
What Ford is doing is really great for the community, supporting local kids and local sports."
Amy Delaney, Carson City: " I drove the Mustang and liked it a lot. It drove smooth and handled well. At 5 foot 3, it's good for short people like me."
Mike and Kris Louisiana of Carson City came out to test drive the Ford Taurus and to lend their support with the fundraiser.
"The Ford Taurus s a good American Ford car," Mike says, adding that what Ford is doing is a wonderful gift to the community.
"As a track and field coach, we came out here to show support. It's an easy way to fund raise. The Ford Motor Company gives $20 a ride up to $6,000. All the community has to do is show up to drive. For what they're doing, it says a lot about who they are."
Ed Avansino, Carson City: "I came out to test drive the Mustang and to support Carson High School. With the economy the way it is, with all the cutbacks in school programs, Ford is to be congratulated for this."
Margene Stenger of Carson City said she is looking for an all-wheel drive vehicle that is good in the snow and liked the 2011 Ford Escape. "I thought it handled nice," she said.
Regarding the Ford program for Carson High School, Stenger said as a mother of a high school student and a resident of Carson City, it's nice to see a company bring the kind of financial support it does for school athletics.
"This kind of donation they've pledged says a lot about how much they care about our community," Stenger said.
Also worth noting is that the Carson High School video production class will enter a 3 to 5 minute video students they plan to produce for the Drive One 4UR School program through Ford Motor Company.
If the video takes first place honors, the school program will receive $6,000 in cash. If the winning video includes a safety segment, the video production team stands to win an additional $1,000, for a grand total of $7,000 in prize money up for grabs. About 50 schools, including Carson High School, will be participating in the video contest.
