Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for the week of Sept. 26 to Oct. 2

Here's the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 26 through Oct. 2, 2016. Work will continue on the downtown corridor improvement project on Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted:

— Musser Street will be open all week.
— Carson Street from the south side of Robinson to Musser will be closed daily, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m
— Spear, Telegraph, and Proctor will be closed from Curry to Plaza daily, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
— Sophia and Ann will be closed on the west side to Curry and the east side to Plaza all week.
— Caroline will be closed on the east side to Plaza all week.

Days of closures subject to change due to weather issues. Downtown businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts, including a road closure, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project. See the video below.

Lane closures with traffic controls are at the following locations due to utility/road work:
— South Carson Street southbound lanes just south of 10th Street will have single lane closure, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Center Drive between Clearview Drive and Koontz Lane, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— South Carson Street between Fairview Drive and Overland Street will have single and double lane closures, Monday through Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the following intersections on S.
— Carson Street will have intermittent closures: Clearview Drive, Eagle Station, and Koontz Drive.
— U.S. 395 between Old Clear Creek Road and Snyder Avenue will have a single northbound lane closed between 7 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility/road work. Please follow detours:
— E. Robinson Street between Fall and Stewart streets, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Topsy Lane between Center Drive and U.S. 395, Monday through Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only.
— N. Edmunds Drive between Gordon and Reeves streets, Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Bigelow Drive will be closed to through traffic at Snyder Avenue, Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, Caltrans reports the following work for Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, 2016:
State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from St. Michael’s Court to Sugar Pine Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday to 11 a.m. Friday for curb and gutter work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from Fir Avenue to Sequoia Avenue North from 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for roadway excavation and from Middle Sequoia Avenue to Sequoia Avenue North from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday for landscape work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $13 million water quality improvement project from Cascade Road to the Eagle Falls Viaduct over Emerald Bay. The project is constructing new drainage facilities to treat stormwater runoff and repaving a four-mile section of the highway. Completion is expected in spring 2017.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Cascade Road to Upper Emerald Bay Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic controls at various locations from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday for shoulder and driveway conforming paving work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks are being built in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side. Drainage systems are also being built and the roadway is being resurfaced. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from the “Y” intersection with U.S. Highway 50 to Lukins Way: Northbound and southbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work. Motorists can also expect one-way traffic control from West Way to Cascade Road from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday for shoulder work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements. Completion is expected this fall.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Fox Street to Beaver Street: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday for shoulder work. Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from Beach Avenue to Deer Street from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday for utility work. Eastbound and westbound motorists also can expect flagged controls at the intersection of State Routes 28 and 267 from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday for pavement grinding and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for paving.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from National Avenue to Beach Avenue: Motorist can expect a traffic shift into the two-way left turn lane from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Weber Creek to Morales Ranch Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for tree trimming work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Cameron Park Drive: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #1 lane closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Saturday for pavement grinding work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Red Hawk Drive: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #1 lane closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Saturday for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Bedford Avenue to Canal Street: Westbound motorists can expect the #2 lane closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday for pavement work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at Schnell School Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the #1 lane closed from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Alpine Avenue to Camp Sacramento: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control around the clock from midnight Monday to 7 p.m. Thursday for grinding and paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Chiapa Drive to Santa Fe Road/Apache Avenue: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect one-way traffic controls from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for pavement repair.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from 3rd Street to Rubicon Trail/Carson Avenue: Eastbound motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday for paving.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from the El Dorado County line to Gray Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday for paving work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Twin Crags Drive in Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Friday for pavement work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from the Tahoe City Caltrans Maintenance Yard to the Truckee River Bridge: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for tree work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Squaw Creek to Pole Creek Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday for drainage work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at the South Fork of the American River/Chili Bar: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday for bridge work.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from Northstar Drive to the junction with State Route 28 in Kings Beach: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Brace Road to Magra Road: Work is nearly completed on the $36 million project which increased the vertical clearance of nine bridge structures in south Placer County to 16 feet, 6 inches. The vertical clearance was increased on seven structures by lifting the existing bridge deck and the other two had the roadway below dug down.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) in a one-mile section under and adjacent to the Brace Road overcrossing: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures as electrical sensors are installed in the roadway. No traffic interfering work scheduled for this week.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Long Ravine underpass to .2 miles east of Magra Road overcrossing: Roadwork begins for the 2.5 year, $50.6 million project to construct @ 3 miles of additional ‘truck climbing lane’ and other improvements to primarily eastbound I-80 east of Colfax including widening the Cape Horn undercrossing bridge.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Cape Horn Undercrossing Bridge: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for around-the-clock alternating lane closures from June 20 throughout the summer for bridge work.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from Scott’s Flat Road to Skillman Campground: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday Sept. 26-30 for ditch cleaning.

State Route 20 (Placer County) from Lake Spaulding Road to Nevada County line: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday September 27 for utility work.

State Route 49 (Nevada County) from Mack Road to Crestview Drive: Motorists can expect nighttime alternating lane and shoulder closures from 8 p.m. Monday September 26 to 6 a.m. Tuesday September 27 for paving operations.

State Route 49 (Yuba/Sierra County) from Marysville Road to Yuba Pass summit: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday September 26-29 for tree work.

Interstate 80 (Nevada County) from just east of Donner Summit to just west of Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect intermittent right lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning Monday 9/26 (eastbound) or Tuesday 9/27 (westbound) and ending Thursday 9/29 (eastbound) or Friday 9/30 (westbound) for tree work.

Interstate 80 - Westbound (Nevada County) from Mystic to Farad Undercrossing: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder closures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday September 27 for shoulder work.

Interstate 80 - Westbound (Nevada County) from Trout Creek undercrossing to I-80/SR 89 South junction: Motorists can expect right lane closures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Wednesday September 26 & 28 for shoulder work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Nevada County) from one mile east of I-80/Hwy89N/Hwy 267 junction to the junction: Motorists can expect right lane closures from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday September 29 for miscellaneous work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Nevada County) from Donner Lake Road interchange to Yuba Gap overcrossing/Hwy 20 junction: Motorists can expect alternating lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday September 26-29 for drainage work.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound (Nevada County) from Hinton Road undercrossing to the WB Floriston off-ramp: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder closures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday September 27 for miscellaneous work.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound (Placer County) at the Gold Run Overcrossing and Rest Area: Motorists can expect rest area and ramp closure from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday September 26-29 for roadway excavation.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound (Placer County) from the Kingvale undercrossing to Donner Lake Interchange: Motorists can expect alternating lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday September 26-29 for drainage work.

State Route 89 (Sierra County) from Webber Lake/Cottonwood Creek Road to Willow Street: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for right lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday September 26-29 for ditch cleaning.

State Route 89 (Sierra County) from Hwy 49N junction (Sierraville) to Hwy 49S junction (Sattley): Motorists can expect intermittent auxiliary, right lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Squaw Creek to Pole Creek Road: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday September 27-28 for drainage work.

State Route 193 (Placer County) from Fowler Road to Rainbow Valley Lane: Motorists can expect around the clock, 24-hour one way traffic control and right shoulder restrictions from 6 a.m. Sunday September 25 to 6 a.m. Saturday October 1 for highway construction.

YERINGTON — Lyon County and the Nevada Secretary of State are aware of the error on the 2024 Lyon County primary ballot regarding the number of candidates to vote for in the Fernley City Council Ward 5 and the Stagecoach General Improvement District Trustees races. Traffic was slow going in Carson City along Highway 50 East following two crashes Tuesday, according to Nevada State Police. There was a crash reported at around 3:50 p.m. on US-50 East and Nye Lane. There was a second crash at 5:18 p.m. reportedly near US-50 and Brown Street.
Injuries are unknown at this time. Motorists can expect delays.

Dayton, Nevada - Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) will offer a free information night for parents and other community members on the health risks of youth vaping, strategies for preventing vaping and ways to support youth in leading healthy lives.

This year 17 students attended the state FFA Convention and participated in 7 different contests. One of Carson High School's own students, Melanie Burrett, was elected the 2024-25 Nevada State Reporter. Mark Twain Days (Year Two) was yet another triumph, particularly the group photo, where every kid and her grandmother sported humongous mustachios. I can’t wait to see the print. My personal favorite event was, “Connections.” A hundred folks gathered together upstairs in the Brewery Arts Center to share personal connections that improved their lives.
