Tahoe Fund gives $27,500 to California Tahoe Conservancy

The environmental non-profit Tahoe Fund presented a $27,500 check to the California Tahoe Conservancy yesterday to allow completion of the Lower Blackwood Creek and Eagle Rock Restoration Project, a critical creek restoration and trailhead project on Lake Tahoe’s west shore. In a shining example of public-private partnership, the money was donated by the Tahoe Fund’s private donors at its annual Founders Circle Summer Dinner in August to help aid the state’s leading Tahoe conservation agency in its efforts to improve lake clarity and recreational opportunities in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
The Lower Blackwood Creek and Eagle Rock Restoration Project will restore one of Tahoe’s most impaired watersheds and complete a spectacular new trail system just five miles south of Tahoe City. The project is the final piece of a comprehensive interagency effort to restore the watershed. Blackwood Creek contributes over 1900 tons of fine sediment per year to Lake Tahoe, more per unit of area than any other watershed in the Tahoe Basin. Through a collaborative effort led by the California Tahoe Conservancy, the creek and its riparian areas will be restored, fish and wildlife habitat will be improved, and an interpretive kiosk will be installed. New trails will also be completed to the summit of Eagle Rock, providing a 20-minute walk from two trailheads to stunning views of nearly all of Lake Tahoe.
“We were absolutely delighted to be able to help fund this critical project through the amazing generosity of our donors,” said Amy Berry, CEO of the Tahoe Fund. “Through our efforts we are going to help those who love Tahoe help take care of it for many generations to come by providing private funds for critical public projects that will restore and enhance Tahoe.”
