Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed on felony child abuse charge

A 20-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday at 12:32 p.m. in the 1200 block of Woodside Drive on a felony charge of child abuse causing physical harm or mental harm and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and assault, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Officers were dispatched to the area on a report of a domestic dispute. The victim reported that her husband, James Patterson, had forced his way into the residence and forcibly removed the children. According to the report, Patterson grabbed the child by his right hand and pulled him away from his mother. The victim reported that the child was suspended for a few seconds only by his right arm. The victim was shoved and slapped by her husband while trying to stop him from putting the children into his car, the arrest report states.

A friend of the victim contacted officers after observing Patterson’s vehicle parked on Woodside Drive. Officers arrested Patterson and transported him to the Carson City Detention Center. Bail: $43,896.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man, Logan Wetzel, was arrested Saturday in the 1400 block of North Carson Street at 11:44 p.m. on charges of battery of a peace officer and destruction of property, and misdemeanor charges of obstructing a peace officer, resisting a peace officer and a failure to appear warrant, .

After receiving a domestic dispute call, officers were dispatched to the area. When they arrived, Wetzel and a female were separated. Wetzel had a warrant outside of Douglas County for failure to appear. When officers asked him to turn around and place his hands behind his back, he refused. Another officer tried to detain Wetzel, but he hit the officer’s hand away and ran.

A foot pursuit began as Wetzel ran down Carson Street. Tri-County Gang unit Deputies caught Wetzel and detained him. Wetzel struck a deputy in the face before he was detained. Bail: $6,952.

— A 51-year-old Carson City man, Victor Peters, was arrested Sunday at 12:19 a.m. in the 4000 block of Center Drive on a felony charge of DUI hit and run with injury and a misdemeanor charge of duty to render aid leaving the scene.

Deputies were dispatched to an injury accident. While responding to the accident, dispatch advised them that the vehicle that caused the accident left the scene. Deputies located the vehicle registered to Peters badly smashed. They knocked on the door and Peters answered. According to the report, he appeared to be intoxicated with red watery eyes and flushed skin.

Peters refused to submit a standardized field sobriety test stating that he would rather have a blood draw. He was taken to jail. Bail: $25,637.

— A 26-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Friday at 7:06 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on gross misdemeanor charges of obtaining money under false pretenses and possession of prescription medication without a prescription and a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny.

Officers responded to a call to Walmart regarding a female detained for shoplifting. A Walmart loss prevention agent said he observed the woman select items from the store and walk to customer service. She returned a hair dryer that she selected without paying for it and received $10.59. The woman returned to the store and selected more items. The loss prevention agent saw her pay for one item and leave with the rest in her purse.

The loss prevention agent escorted the woman to the office where the officers met her and read her the Miranda Warning. The woman admitted she got cash for the item she didn’t pay for and for stealing other items from the store. While she was at the jail, deputies located a partial pill inside her wallet identified as Percocet. She said she obtained it without a prescription. Bail: $5,352.

— A 29-year-old man, Carlos Diaz, was arrested Saturday at 8:38 a.m. in the 800 block of East Musser Street on two fugitive from justice felony charges. An officer was assigned to rove duties at the Carson City jail when two State of New York warrants were issued from Carson City Dispatch for a Miguel Garcia who was in custody for local charges. The officer confirmed that Miguel Garcia was Carlos Diaz through fingerprint database and photos. The warrants were confirmed with "no bail holds" attached pending a hearing.

— A Carson City man, Alanso Rangel, was arrested Saturday at 4:37 p.m. in the 1800 block of East Long Street on a felony charge of parole and probation warrant. Deputies were on patrol of the area when they received an anonymous tip from Secret Witness that reported Rangel, who is wanted by Nevada Parole and Probations was in the parking lot in the 1800 block of East Long Street.

The deputies exited the patrol car and ordered Rangel to the ground and was later handcuffed. No bail hold pending a hearing.

A sixteen-year-old Carson City resident is in custody following a gas station robbery Thursday night.

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, the robbery occurred at an ExtraMile convenience store and involved a knife.
