Carson City arrests: Civil war re-enactor arrested, allegedly points sword and slaps juvenile

A 40-year-old man was arrested Saturday at Mills Park for felony suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Wayne Allen Bechard, who was at the park participating in Civil War re-enactment activities, was taken into custody at 8:05 p.m. at Mills Park in the 1100 block of East William Street.

According to the arrest report, a male juvenile accused the Reno man of pulling a sword on him, pointing it at his chest and then slapping him in the face with his hands.

The man told a Carson City sheriff’s deputy that he and a friend were walking on a sidewalk, where they were approached by 4 juveniles, one of whom allegedly slapped him in the testicles, according to the arrest report.

The man told the deputy that he did pull out the sword “like an idiot,” he said, and pointed it at the juvenile, and then placed it on his chest, the arrest report states. The man told the deputy he put the sword away and put his hands up, as if in a fighting position, and said, before he knew it, he slapped the kid in the face with his open hands, according to the report.

The deputy observed the sword to have dull edges but the tip was sharp, the arrest report states. The sword and sheath were booked into evidence.

The arresting officer did not observe any marks on the juvenile’s face from the slap, nor did the juvenile have any marks from the sword that was allegedly placed on his chest. The man was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly drawing the sword, pointing it at the juvenile and placing it on his chest, the arrest report states. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of battery for allegedly slapping the juvenile. Bail: $22,137.

In other arrests:
— A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 3:10 a.m. in the area of Plaza and Telegraph streets for misdemeanor suspicion of resisting a public officer with violence, interfering with a police officer and being an intoxicated pedestrian on the roadway.

According to the arrest report, a deputy observed two females walking in the middle of the roadway yelling profanities at each other and arguing. The deputy ordered the two females to stop so that he could investigate the altercation.

When the deputy ordered the females to stop, one of them continued walking north and said “f**k you,” to the deputy. The second female stopped as requested.

The deputy identified himself to the one who yelled a curse word at him and informed her he was giving her a lawful order to stop. The woman continued walking.

After several warnings the officer grabbed the woman by her arm and informed her not to make the situation worse. The deputy again said he wanted her to stop and talk as part of the investigation and reminded her she was walking intoxicated in the middle of the roadway.

The woman pulled away, continued calling deputies profanities and refused to cooperate. She was handcuffed and put in the back of a patrol vehicle where she kicked the rear windows several times, the arrest report states.

Deputies learned from the woman who followed the deputy's directions that the two were roommates and they were arguing and that she was attempting to get her roommate home because she was intoxicated. Bail: $1,661.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was called to a residence regarding an unconscious man. Dispatch advised the man had two outstanding arrest warrants. He was cleared by paramedics. Deputies learned one of the warrants alleged conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon and the other alleging burglary.

The man was placed under arrest. During a search a plastic bag with 1.1 grams of methamphetamine was discovered in the man's right front pocket of his shorts. Bail: $12,500 bail with a “no bail hold” for the conspiracy to commit assault charge, which was issued out of Carson City Justice Court.

According to the arrest report, a deputy observed a white Ford pickup in front of him cross over the white fog line and back to its lane multiple times. The deputy activated his emergency lights, stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver.

The officer could smell the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked how much he had to smoke. The man provided a small container with a marijuana cigarette and advised he had been smoking marijuana in his car prior to being stopped. The man agreed to field sobriety tests, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail: $1,269.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 6:21 p.m. in the area of Palo Verde Drive and Mesquite Place for misdemeanor probation violation. The deputy did a warrants check as she was being transported and was advised she is currently under supervision through the Department of Alternative Sentencing for three cases. Bail release conditions placed on the woman included not to drink alcohol. The woman provided a breath sample of .322. Bail: $6,000 cash only.
