Carson City arrests: Man faces felony charges, flips vehicle following brief pursuit

A man who allegedly ran a red light and wouldn't stop for a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy on Sunday afternoon faces felony charges after a brief pursuit where he drove his car onto a bike path, flipped it into a ditch, which then later caught fire as it was being prepared for tow.

The suspect, Frank Travino, was arrested after crashing the car, followed by a brief foot pursuit at around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Butti and Airport Road. The arresting deputy prepared to taser the running man, who then gave up, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Brian Mays.

The suspect faces felony charges including failure to yield for a police officer and possession of methamphetamine.
Trevino was not injured.

When a tow driver arrived and flipped the vehicle over, it caught on fire. Carson City Fire Department immediately returned to the scene and extinguished the flames.

In other arrests:
— A 19 year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday morning at 1:38 a.m. in the area of Sherman Lane and Dori Way on several misdemeanor offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said, including first offense driving under the influence (DUI), first offense possession of marijuana, and consumption by a minor.

According to the arrest report, the suspect's vehicle had been stopped by law enforcement for failing to maintain a lane of traffic. The suspect driver was found to have no valid driver's license, either.

A K-9 sniff of the vehicle located marijuana inside, the report said.

Upon making contact with the suspect, deputies observed him to have red, watery eyes that were also droopy and he demonstrated slurred speech. He also swayed while standing, the report said.

The suspect denied consuming alcohol, but he did admit to smoking marijuana earlier. Field sobriety testing demonstrated impairment, the report said.

He was subsequently taken into custody, transported to the Carson City Jail and booked. Bail: $1,000.

— Two 18 year-old Carson City men were arrested Friday evening at 5:09 p.m. in the 3800 block of North Carson Street after they were found to possess marijuana, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Nevada state law prohibits possession of marijuana by individuals under the age of 21. The offense is listed in some instances as felony possession of a controlled substance (PCS) under the law, including possession of concentrated marijuana.

According to the arrest report, Devin McMenamy was busted after law enforcement performed a traffic stop on his vehicle for speeding nearly 10 miles per hour (mph) over the speed limit in a 45 mph zone. Registration tags on the vehicle were also shown to have expired.

Upon making contact with the driver, McMenamy, a deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. All three occupants were under age to be using marijuana, the report said, including the two 18 year-old males as well as a 17 year-old minor female in the vehicle.

All three vehicle occupants denied there was any marijuana in the car, the report said, although two of them did admit to recently using marijuana.

A K-9 unit was called in to perform an exterior sniff of the vehicle, the report said. The K-9 officer displayed a positive alert during the sniff procedure and a plastic baggy of marijuana was found in a search of the vehicle.

McMenamy also consented to a search of his person, the report said, and wax concentrate marijuana was found in his pants pocket.

He was subsequently handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking on felony PCS of concentrated marijuana, the report said. Bail: $2,500.

The other 18 year-old male was arrested on misdemeanor PCS and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report said. Bail: $1,000.

— A 34 year-old male transient was arrested Friday night at 9:02 p.m. in the 4300 block of South Carson Street for felony possession of a controlled substance and several misdemeanor offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said, including possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle with a revoked driver's license and expired registration as well as no proof of insurance.

According to the report, a Sheriff's deputy performed a registration check of a vehicle traveling southbound on Cochise Drive and a traffic stop was subsequently made on South Carson Street upon learning that vehicle registration was expired.

Upon law enforcement making contact with driver Joseph Scott, he reported an outstanding warrant for his arrest. A records check confirmed Scott had an active bench warrant issued out of the Carson City Justice Court, and he was handcuffed.

A drug detection K-9 officer was used to perform an exterior sniff around Scott's vehicle and the procedure showed a positive alert at both driver and passenger side doors.

A subsequent interior vehicle search found trace amounts of white powder identified as cocaine, which was field tested as presumptive positive.

Scott was then transported to the Carson City Jail and booked. Bail: $2,500.
