Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through June 14
Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 8-14. On Tuesday, June 9, and Wednesday, June 10, there will be intermittent lane closures with flaggers on the south side of Winne Lane near the intersection with Ormsby Boulevard due to the construction of shoulder improvements.
Work will continue on westbound Fifth Street between Well Way and Pasture Drive due to work on the north side of the median. Some delays are expected.
Work will continue for sidewalk improvements being constructed at the main entrance to Western Nevada College from College Parkway. Please use caution.
On Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9, there will be lane closures at the intersection of Bigelow Drive and Race Track Road with flagger controlled traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be shoulder work from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:
— The intersection of Fall Street and Eighth Street (Monday).
— The intersection of Plaza Street and Eighth Street (Tuesday).
— Nevada Street near the intersection with Eighth Street (Wednesday).
— Sixth Street near the intersection with Nevada Street (Thursday).
On Saturday, June 13, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, there will be a bike ride event in downtown Carson City. There are no street closures scheduled, but please use caution when driving through downtown during this time.
Though not in Carson City, the Nevada Department of Transportation will be performing roadway maintenance on U.S. 50 from SR 341 (Virginia City Junction) to Chavez Road in Lyon County. Work will begin Sunday, June 7, and continue through Thursday, June 11, from 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly. No delays are expected.
In Reno, southbound lanes of Interstate 580 are reduced south of the Reno spaghetti bowl as the Nevada Department of Transportation replaces aging roadway concrete as part of the Southbound I-580 Reconstruction Project.
Three interstate lanes will remain open in each direction throughout construction. Southbound lanes will be reduced to three lanes between Glendale Avenue and Moana Lane through fall. One lane will be rerouted to a designated construction lane on the northbound interstate, with no access to off ramps north of Moana Lane. The two remaining southbound lanes will be routed through the construction zone with access to select southbound off ramps.
Around the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra, Caltrans reports the following road projects this week: State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to the "Y" junction with State Route 28 in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe’s West Shore that will upgrade storm water drainage and treatment systems, add curb and gutter, resurface and realign the road, add new left-turn pockets and widen shoulders on a 9-mile stretch of the highway.
June 7-12: State Route 89 (El Dorado/Placer County) from McKinney Drive (north) to Spruce Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations around the clock from 10 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Friday for paving, wall excavation and utility work.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $20 million water-quality project from 0.1 mile north of the Eagle Falls Sidehill Viaduct No. 5 in Emerald Bay to the Meeks Creek Bridge in Meeks Bay. This project is adding new drainage features, curb and gutter in some locations, and resurfacing a nearly 7-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected this fall.
June 8-12: State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from 1 Ring Road to Bliss Memorial State Park Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for drainage work.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8 million project from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue in Tahoma, installing curb and gutter and drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater. The highway will also be resurfaced. Completion is expected this fall.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday for roadway excavation.
State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $25 million project from the "Y" junction with U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe to Cascade Road, north of Camp Richardson. Curb, gutter and sidewalks will be added in the 1.1-mile four-lane section, and the highway will be widened in the two-lane section to Visitor Center Road to provide 4-foot paved shoulders on each side.
State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. The project is installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.
State Route 28 (Placer County) from the junction with State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for curb, gutter and sidewalk work.
State Route 267 (Placer County): Work has begun on a $5.2 million project to grind and pave and make drainage improvements to a nearly seven-mile stretch of State Route 267 from just north of Schaffer Mill Road to Brockway Summit. Completion is expected by the end of September.
State Route 267 (Placer County) from the Nevada County line to Carnelian Bay Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for drainage work. There will also be daytime shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from the Nevada County line to Northstar Drive for concrete work.
State Route 49 (El Dorado County): Work continues on an $8.4 million project to repave an 11-mile section of State Route 49 from Cool to Coloma. Most of the paving will use cold-in-place recycling in which the existing pavement is ground up and reused and then an asphalt overlay is placed on top of it. Rocks are also being added to some shoulder areas for erosion control. Completion is expected by late July.
U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from the junction with State Route 89 to 2nd Street in South Lake Tahoe: Eastbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 5 p.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday for gas line relocation work.
State Route 89 (Placer County) from West River Street to Deerfield Drive in Truckee: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday for roadway excavation.
