Carson City's Victory Rollers draw crowd for first home bout of season
Carson City's home town sports team hosted its first game of the year Saturday at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park.
The Carson Victory Rollers, a home grown roller derby team organized six years ago, gave their fans in the Nevada state capital a thrill by edging out the Port City Roller Girls, 171-155, in their first home bout of 2017.
"It was a super close back and forth game," said CVR Events Coordinator Crystal Blackeye.
The Victory Rollers had amassed a quick 25 points, lapping their opponents several times to jump out to an early commanding lead.
But Port City fought back hard to challenge Carson City at multiple points in the game, wrestling the lead away from the hosts.
In the end, though, it was the Victory Rollers who edged Port City for the home win.
In the early match the Junior Victory Rollers skated against the California Mayhem junior roller derby team.
