Carson High's Landon Truesdale puts stellar season into perspective
Carson Senators center fielder Landon Truesdale is putting together an impressive season.
Despite a 14-16 record, the senior is keeping Carson’s offense afloat batting a scorching .477 to go along with eight extra base hits and 14 runs batted in (RBI) at the plate, while providing a quick glove and strong arm in the field.
“I think my season has gone pretty well so far,” said Truesdale. “I started off strong and have carried my performance throughout. But overall I’m just trying to see the ball and make good contact each plate appearance.”
Truesdale is fresh off a solid season with the varsity Senators football team, where he started at cornerback and split time at safety.
“Playing two sports is always fun,” Truesdale says with a smile. “But baseball will always remain as my favorite sport.”
Truesdale carries his success to the classroom as well, maintaining a 4.13 grade-point average (GPA) and enrolling in three Advanced Placement (AP) classes at CHS, including government, literature, and calculus.
“It’s definitely hard to balance both at times,” said Truesdale. “By the end of the week I’m pretty exhausted, but I try not to sacrifice them because they are
both important.
"I don’t want to sacrifice anything for the team, but at the same time my classes serve a purpose as well," he added. "I guess the one thing I do sacrifice is sleep.”
On the diamond, Truesdale’s performance has left a positive impression on both his teammates and coaches.
“I’m so happy to see Landon doing so well,” said head coach Brian Manoukian. “He’s carried us at times offensively, and picked up the guys in the clubhouse when they were getting down on the outcome of a game. He’s a one-of-a-kind kid and I wish him nothing but the best.”
After back-to-back blowout wins against Wooster on Saturday, Truesdale focused in on the tail end of the season.
“We just have to keep it one game at a time,” he said. “If we beat Douglas on Wednesday that could potentially guarantee us a spot in the playoffs, so we must stay focused.”
In the near future, Truesdale hopes to continue playing baseball at a junior college and maintain his academic excellence.
