Pierre Hathaway passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019, at his home in Carson City, Nevada. Pierre had been receiving hospice care at his home where his wife of 24 years, Florence Phillips-Hathaway, had been caring for him following a 5-month illness.

Born October 30, 1930, in New Rochelle, New York, he led an active life, filled with love for all and a heaping dose of humor. Pierre was devoted to his family, children, and career In the finance and accounting sector.

He was passionate about being of service to his community and to others, always there to lend a helping, compassionate and friendly hand to anyone in need. Most notably, was his mentoring of teen boys, his volunteerism with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a Kindergarten substitute teacher and errand boy extraordinaire, for his beloved Florence.

A 1953 MBA graduate and a proud red shirt wearing alum of Stanford University, he went on to become the Chief Financial Officer for the Peppermill Restaurant after he settled in the Reno, Nevada area.

He had countless medals, many won together with his crew of swimming buddies, Augie, Ashley, and Harry. There were too many records that he held to be mentioned. Pierre was a frequent fixture at the Carson City Aquatic Pool where he enjoyed swimming year-round and spending time visiting with his swimming community of friends.

Pierre was committed to spreading the love and word of God through Kairos that spanned 46 years, being active in their prison ministry, serving Women’s Prison, Nevada State Prison, Northern Nevada Correctional Center and Lovelock Prison. During the last week of Pierre’s life, several former inmates had made the journey to come and visit him, praising his mentoring of them as a significant reason why the course corrected their lives in order to today, pay it forward to others in need of ministry, support, and love.
