Carson City area road report for week of March 28 to April 3

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of March 28 to April 3, 2016: Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street with one lane each direction for travel.

Between William and Proctor streets both north and southbound traffic will be diverted to the northbound lanes of Carson Street and from Proctor to Fifth Street both north and southbound traffic will be diverted to the southbound lanes of Carson Street.

Telegraph to the west of Carson Street to Curry, will close on Tuesday or Wednesday for the remainder of the week.

To access businesses located on those blocks, access Curry via Musser, drive north and park on Curry or surrounding side streets. All other side streets scheduled to remain open for the week. Days of closures subject to change due to weather. Downtown businesses are
open during construction.

— There will be lane closures with flagger-controlled traffic on Washington Street between Phillips and Roop streets due to the construction of the East/West Water Transmission Project.

— Race Track Road will be closed to through traffic between Bigelow Drive and Schulz Drive, and Bigelow Drive will be closed to through traffic south of Snyder Avenue for the entire week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the region on Monday from 3 to 11 a.m. The advisory area includes Carson City, Reno, Carson Valley, Mason Valley, Yerington, Virginia City, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock and Silver Springs.

Bands of snow showers will develop Monday morning and be locally heavy with up to 2 inches of snow possible, according to the weather service. A heavier band is expected to form and could bring up to 5 inches. The snow could affect either the I-80 or Highway 50 corridors, the weather service states.

Motorists can expect areas of slushy or snowpacked roads with the Monday morning commute. For road conditions call 1-800-427-7623 for California and 1-877-NV-Roads for Nevada. You can also check road conditions online for Nevada and California. If you have plans to travel through the Sierra be sure to check the latest forecast at weather.gov/Reno and check road conditions with Caltrans and NDOT.

Nevada Department of Transportation continues construction of an auxiliary merge lane from Alternative U.S. 395/Eastlake Boulevard to southbound I-580 in north Carson City.

Through early summer, periodic lane and ramp closures will continue on southbound I-580 and the Alternative U.S. 395/Eastlake Boulevard to southbound I-580 merge lane in the Duck Hill area. The existing merge lane will be extended 2,700 feet to reach Carson Street, providing additional space and safety to merge.

Since auxiliary lane construction began, approximately 3,000 cubic yards of material has been excavated as part of construction. Detours are available by taking the Bellevue Road exit to southbound I-580.

Around the Sierra this week, Caltrans reports the following work from March 28 to April 2, 2016:

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Latrobe Road/El Dorado Hills Boulevard to Bass Lake Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Saturday for sign work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at Greenwood Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at Rock Creek Road: Motorists can expect long-term signalized one-way traffic control for emergency repair work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) — the Newcastle Road Overcrossing will be closed from 4 p.m. Monday, March 28 to 5 p.m., Thursday, April 14 for bridge work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from the Highway 193 junction to Sierra College Boulevard: Motorists can expect full closure of the Interstate from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday March 30-31 and Thursday and Friday March 31 to April 1 for the lifting of the Newcastle Road overcrossing. Westbound I-80 on-ramps at Penryn Road and Horseshoe Bar Road will remain open during the closure. Traffic will detour on Taylor Road.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Sierra College Boulevard to Newcastle Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures and on-ramp closures from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday through Saturday for bridge work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday on the Brace, Gilardi, Horseshoe Bar, King, Penryn and Magra overcrossings for bridge work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Lager Beer Viaduct to .35 miles north of Lager Beer Viaduct: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. until May 6 for retaining wall construction.

State Route 89 (Sierra County) from the Little Truckee River Webber Lake/Cottonwood Creek Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday March 29-31 for crack seal operations.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from the junction with SR 174 to the WB off ramp to Bennett Street: Motorists can expect left turn lane on the off ramp and lane one of the surface street overnight closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 to 5 a.m. Saturday, April 2 for utility work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Rams Horn Campground to Sidehill viaduct: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for lane and shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 27 to April 1 for guardrail work.

State Route 49 (Yuba/Sierra County) from Marysville Road to Yuba Pass summit: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for lane and shoulder closures from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, March 28 to March 31 for miscellaneous work.

State Route 174 – Westbound (Nevada County) from Ophir Street to Memorial Lane: Motorists can expect alternating lane one way traffic control and right shoulder closures on the local cross streets from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, March 27 to April 1 for utility work.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.
