Grass area of popular dog-friendly Sonoma Park in Carson City to open Friday afternoon
A portion of Sonoma Park in Carson City, which has been closed since earlier this month for maintenance, will re-open Friday. The main grass area will be opened to the public and dogs on Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m. weather permitting.
The playground will remain closed as there is still work being done to that area and all Carson City playgrounds are currently closed to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The park is located at 1003 Sonoma St, Carson City.
Sonoma Park has been closed since March 9 for seasonal maintenance and repairs, while efforts to renovate the turf, address drainage issues and repair deficiencies related to the playground and amenities in the park are being made.
The park has been given some much-needed turf rehabilitation, which was needed to help the grass turf rejuvenate from the heavy use of the popular park. Staff was also to address and do an irrigation audit (evaluation) to resolve any inefficiencies of the current irrigation system. Drainage improvements are also being made. Additional improvements will be a drinking fountain and new benches that will be added, a picnic table will be replaced and concrete work will be completed.
