Carson City weather: Cool and breezy with shot of snow showers Monday and later in the week
The remaining days of February for the Carson City region will bring temperatures below seasonal averages, breezy conditions, light snow with the potential for travel impacts Monday as a more potent storm is expected to move into the region, according to the National Weather Service.
A weak weather system is pushing through the area, with light snow showers Saturday expected mainly north of Susanville-Lovelock with breezy conditions across much of the region.
By Monday the chance for snow showers will increase with bands of locally heavier snow possible, leading to slick and icy roads with long travel delays possible for both the morning and evening commutes, according to the weather service.
Due to the unpredictable nature of this Monday "slider" storm, the weather service advises that motorists should be prepared for snow and ice on the valley roadways. As we've seen lately, some storms bring snow showers to the north and south but leave Carson City mostly dry with only a few flurries.
Tuesday could feature some leftover wrap-around snow showers south of Highway 50 behind Monday`s system, forecasters say.
Conditions through Wednesday appear to be cold and dry, with minimal chance for precipitation into the evening. By Thursday, however, the weather service says a strong storm is brewing in the eastern Pacific that could bring substantial Sierra snowfall and at least some snow in western Nevada, possibly briefly mixing with rain.
