Carson City man arrested for eating drugs, charged with evidence destruction

A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 2200 block of E. William Street under the suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, suspicion of destroying or concealing evidence, and misdemeanor suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession.

Kelly Emerson Cotroneo was arrested after deputies were conducting a business check at a local casino when they noticed a man sitting in a car with tin foil in his lap and a tooter straw, used in consuming narcotics.

Deputies also noted a small baggie sitting on the center console of the vehicle.

Deputies told Cotroneo to step out of the vehicle, at which point they said Cotroneo reached into the center console and appeared to grab the baggie, but turned his body so deputies were unable to see what he did with it. Deputies ordered Cotroneo to stop, at which point he grabbed the tin foil and began to attempt to hide it while crinkling it up in his fist.

Deputies grabbed him by his left shoulder and ordered him out of the vehicle, which he obeyed.

Deputies asked what he was doing, and he said he was “trying to get a little use from the narcotics but there wasn’t any left,” according to the report. Deputies asked him what was in the vehicle and he said there was a tooter straw and tin foil, but that was it. He denied there ever being a baggie on the center console.

Deputies told Controneo they observed the baggie in plan view, but he continued to deny any baggie was ever there.

He was placed into custody and the vehicle was towed. During the inventory of the vehicle, a baggie was not located. Deputies believe he may have eaten the baggie while he turned away in the vehicle, according to the report.

The tooter straw with residue of methamphetamine and tin foil were recovered.

He was transferred to the Carson City Jail without incident.

Bail: $6,000

— A 35-year-old Gardnerville woman was arrested in the 2100 block of E. William Street for felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia possession.

Sarah Leslie Moresi was arrested after deputies responded to the scene on a report of a vehicle bearing fictitious plates in the parking lot of a casino.

Deputies waited until two people entered the vehicle and crossed E. William, driving toward another casino on E. William. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and asked them to step in front of the patrol vehicle, because they were going to receive a citation for fictitious plates.

Deputies noticed Moresi had several open sores on her face and extremely pale skin, and deputies knew the driver of the vehicle from previous drug arrests.

A K-9 Deputy was dispatched who conducted a sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert. In the vehicle, they found Moresi’s purse with a methamphetamine pipe located inside a sunglasses case, a second methamphetamine pipe and a small baggie with methamphetamine inside.

She was taken into custody without incident.

Bail: $3,637

— A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 2800 block of Airport Road for domestic battery first after allegedly grabbing her boyfriend by his hair.

Deputies responded to the residence after the woman called deputies, reporting a physical altercation had occurred between herself and her boyfriend of nine months.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with the woman, who said she and her boyfriend were arguing when she got angry and grabbed him by his hair out of frustration.

She said her boyfriend got up and pushed her against the wall with his forearm against her throat. She said she was able to push him away and get out of the residence.

Deputies spoke with the boyfriend, who said the woman had grabbed him by his hair in an attempt to turn him around during their argument, and he had pushed her away with his forearm, making contact with her throat, but unintentionally.

Deputies determined the woman was the primary aggressor and she was taken to the Carson City Jail without incident.

Bail: $3,137

— A 65-year-old Carson City man was arrested for DUI first in the 3400 block of Imperial Way Thursday afternoon.

According to the reporting party, the man had been taken to the Mallory Center to be admitted for Detox earlier in the day. He submitted to a preliminary breath test, which resulted in a .130 BAC.

However, the Mallory Center refused to admit him as he had left against medical advice several times before.

The reporting party took him back home and dropped him off, but shortly after the man’s landlord called to say he had driven away from his home drunk.

The reporting party went back to his home and waited for him to return. When he arrived, he was too intoxicated to walk on his own and needed to be helped inside. He had gone to the gas station and purchased more alcohol before returning home.

When speaking with deputies, the man had red, watery eyes, thick slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He also began to choke while talking and had to be transferred to Carson Tahoe.

He said he had taken two shots of vodka at the gas station before returning home.

He was charged with DUI first and transported to the Carson City Jail after he was cleared from the hospital.
