Carson City Parks Department: Fuji Park playground closed for repairs, to reopen sometime in March
The Fuji Park playground adjacent to the Fuji Park Dog Park has been closed due to repairs, according to David Navarro, Parks Operations Superintendent from the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, and is set to be reopened sometime in March, although the time frame is dependent on an order of new parts for the playground.
“A Playground Audit was done a while back and after it was completed, it pointed out a few implements that needed to be replaced because there were visible signs of cracks and or damage to those implements,” said Navarro. “For precautionary reasons, we closed the playground until we could get those items fixed and/or replaced.”
The order for the replacement parts was placed several weeks ago, said Navarro, and the parks closure is dependent on when those parts come in and when they are reinstalled at the playground.
Replacement parts for playground structures can take anywhere between four to ten weeks to arrive, which depends on the availability of parts and what type of part is ordered.
The playground could change structurally once the repairs are made.
“Some changes in the configuration of the playground will need to be made as well during this time,” said Navarro. “We are hoping to have all the parts in, replace the old ones and re-open the playground in about another month.”
The Fuji Park Dog Park is still open during this time, and Sonoma Park and Ross Gold Park (known colloquially as the Duck Park) are nearby alternatives while Fuji Park Playground is closed.
