Carson City weather: Biggest snow yet to come, 6 to 14 inches possible for valley floors
Another potent winter storm blast will slam into Carson City, western Nevada and Sierra beginning Saturday night that could bring up to 14 inches of snow in the valleys and several feet in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow will continue through early Saturday morning with a break in the weather expected on Saturday. The stronger storm system is expected to arrive Saturday night and last through Sunday, prompting a Winter Storm Watch for Carson City and surroundings areas.
Snow accumulation Saturday night through Sunday will be six to 14 inches for valley locations and 1 to 2 feet for the foothills and areas above 5,000 feet including Virginia City.
Southwest winds with gusts up to 40 mph will create areas of blowing and drifting snow on Sunday, according to the weather service.
Expect hazardous travel conditions and chain or snow tire restrictions due to snow covered roads. Travel may become very difficult Sunday and Sunday night due to snow and blowing snow.
The Sierra is going to get another round of heavy snow and high winds which will create significant impacts to the region. The Lake Tahoe Basin can expect 2 to 4 feet with 3 to 6 feet above 7,000 feet and Sierra Ridge wind gusts up to 140 mph Saturday night into Sunday. Make sure preparations are completed as soon as possible, and do not attempt to travel as conditions will become life threatening.
