Atmospheric river causing travel issues throughout Northern Nevada
Some of the best snow to hit the Lake Tahoe Basin is turning into a heavy, water laden snowpack as a strong atmospheric river makes its way through the Lake Tahoe Basin and Northern Nevada. Six to twelve inches of rainfall is expected in the Sierra, prompting a Flood Watch to be in effect for the region.
Carson City has seen an inch of rain so far Wednesday, with rain expected all day. The National Weather Service said the rain will be turning to a wintery mix of rain and snow Thursday evening. A flood warning has been issued for Northern Nevada late Saturday night through Monday morning.
The atmospheric river will likely produce a period of intense rainfall with snow levels rising as high as 9000 feet early Sunday morning to Monday morning. Rainfall totals of 6-12" are possible around the Tahoe Basin and in the Carson Range with up to 3" of rain in the lower elevation around Reno, Spark, Carson City and Douglas County.
Expect travel issues through the weekend.
