Nevada State Swimming Championship returns to Carson City in Sesquicentennial style

Event Date:
November 8, 2014 - 2:00pm
The 2014 Nevada State Swimming Championships are returning to northern Nevada following a two-year rotation in southern Nevada. The championship meet is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, and continues through Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at the Carson Aquatic Facility in Carson City.

This event is being hosted by the Carson Tigersharks Swim Team and is being held under USA/Pacific Swimming Sanction No. 14-156. On Sept. 25, 2014, this Championship Meet was awarded recognition as an “Official Event” by the Nevada 150 Commission, and the Sesquicentennial spirit will be evident in every aspect of this traditionally “North vs. South” duel.

More than 600 youth athlete swimmers from all corners of the State of Nevada are expected to attend the Championship Meet, along with 2500+ parents, siblings, grandparents, coaches, volunteer officials, and spectators. Teams travel from as far south as Boulder City, Nevada, and as far north as Elko, Nevada. Admission is free, and the public is welcome.

Up for grabs for competing youth athlete swimmers are first-time Championship titles in qualifying and bonus events, as well as the opportunity to defend Championship titles and take a shot at shattering a prior State Meet record. Times earned during this event may be used to qualify for other elite Championship Meets, including Junior Olympics, Far Westerns, Sectionals, Nationals, and Grand Prix events.

Supporting the event will be nearly 100 parent-volunteers from the host team, Carson Tigersharks, as well as volunteer-officials almost exclusively from Zone 4 of Pacific Swimming and Sierra Nevada Swimming. Top Officials who will be volunteering in excess of 12-hours per day for each day of the four (4) day Championship Meet in order for the meet to take place as a USA/Pacific Swimming sanctioned event include Meet Referee Jim Morefield, Head Starter Greg Gephart, Administrative Referee Judy Maynor, Meet Marshall Gary Kolb and Chief Judge Valerie Rudd.

Data collected by the Carson City Visitors Bureau during the 2012 Nevada State Swimming Championships also hosted by the Carson Tigersharks at the Carson Aquatic Facility, and reported in the “2013 Sports Tourism Economic Impact Report (Rev 5/813)” prepared by the Carson City Visitors Bureau documents that in excess of $848,000 was pumped into the local economy as a direct result of the 2012 Championship Meet. An even greater economic impact is expected this Sesquicentennial Year, and potential teams sponsors are currently being solicited (deadline to submit Sponsorship Application is Oct. 20, 2014).

For more information concerning this event, please contact the Carson Tigersharks’ Head Coach, Julie Hardt, Ph.D., at (775) 882-7946 or jhardt@gmail.com, or Meet Director Becki Boehnke at (775) 882-7946 or becki@tigersharks.org, or visit the Carson Tigersharks’ website at www.tigersharks.org.
