Trash Mobs Help Clean Up Carson City
Muscle Powered, the organization for a walkable and bikeable Carson City, is sponsoring a new initiative in the community in order to keep the local walking and biking paths clear of trash. Once a month, the local community will be invited to participate in a “Trash Mob.”
The idea behind Trash Mobs is similar to the popular flash mobs where a group of people gather in a public place and perform some pre-arranged task for a brief time before dispersing. Trash Mobs will involve gathering litter at a designated location for one hour in order to make the area safer and healthier for walking and biking. The participants will gather on the third Saturday of each month from 8:00 – 9:00 am at a prearranged location which will be coordinated through social media.
The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department and Carson City Public Works are also involved with the effort, assisting with the trash removal after the Trash Mob has gathered and bagged the trash at a designated spot.
The first Trash Mob is scheduled for Saturday, July 18 at the multi-use path at College and I580. Park at U.S. Bank. Gloves, trash bags, and water will be a available.
