Pioneer Students Place at HOSA State Competition
Pioneer High School students returned from the Nevada HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) State Leadership Conference with a new perspective and affirmation of their hard work and dedication.
When asked about the developing health CTE program at PHS, Jason Zona, principal, stated:
“Our students competed among several health specific CTE schools, academies, and chapters in Nevada and we were proud of their growth and performance. Mr. Bland, CTE teacher, has tripled his student involvement in one year at PHS. His leadership, innovation, and the creation of the first successful Health Information Management System class in Nevada, is something CCSD is very proud of. Mr. Bland is a true educational leader in our school district. PHS students in his second year CTE class placed in the Public Health category and learned a great deal from the overall experience.”
During the event, students were provided with an opportunity to continue career building, leadership development, and motivation. This was accomplished through a series of excellent professional workshops, competitive events, and industry networking with other Health Occupations students throughout the State. Additionally, PHS offers a Health Information Management program that was featured as an educational symposium in this year’s Conference and included contributions and support from the Nevada Department of Education, industry leaders, and Pioneer Health Information Management students.
Being part of such a wonderful and supportive organization has allowed PHS students to understand the importance of these professional attributes and hard work in building the foundations of their future careers.
