Due to the continued and forecasted very unhealthy air quality, all Carson City School District hybrid students will be on a full-remote learning day Friday, Sept. 18, 2020. Students will not attend classes in-person on campus. Staff will receive specific instructions from their site administrator.

Carson City Health and Human Services reports Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 that there are 23 new cases and 10 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,217, with 1,072 recoveries and fifteen deaths, 130 cases remain active.

RENO — At a special Nevada System of Higher Education meeting held Thursday, the Board of Regents announced the appointment of former Gov. Brian Sandoval as the University of Nevada, Reno’s next president. He becomes the first Hispanic and 17th president of the 146-year-old University.

Gov. Sandoval, who is currently a Distinguished Fellow of Law and Leadership at UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law among other endeavors, will begin Oct. 5, 2020 and serve a 4-year contract.

CARSON CITY — While employment in Nevada realized an increase over the month of 6,500 jobs, the state has seen a decrease of 133,600 jobs since August 2019, for an annual growth rate of -9.4 percent, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s August 2020 economic report.

The Nevada Department of Education announced Tuesday 25 grant awards totaling $11,075,467 in Elementary and Secondary School Relief funding available through the federal Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, and Economic Security CARES Act.
