Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak and the Nevada Agency for Nuclear Projects announced Tuesday the filing of a new legal motion to bring an end to failed federal plans to construct a repository for the nation’s highly radioactive waste at Yucca Mountain, 65 miles northwest of Clark County’s populated areas.

In the race for Nevada secretary of state, former Republican assemblyman and one-time congressional candidate Jim Marchant has cut a national profile as a prominent denier of the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election and vocal critic of the state’s election administration.

The Nevada Supreme Court has affirmed a lower-court ruling that a statutory ballot initiative that aimed to create a voucher-style education program cannot move forward.

The mail ballot opt-out deadline is fast approaching. Nevada voters have until Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. to request to opt-out of receiving a mail ballot.

During the Sept. 1 meeting, the Lyon County Board of Commissioners discussed
a building moratorium in South Dayton, a geothermal and solar energy facility, agricultural tourism and more.

Nye County’s recently appointed interim clerk, a 2020 election denier, will not be required to follow a newly adopted state regulation for hand counting ballots, after an amendment to the regulation ensures it will only affect counties that rely strictly on a hand count for results.

The Carson City Democratics have announced open office hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday until at least Nov. 8. The office is located at 502 E. John St.

A Carson City judge has blocked Reno attorney and former Republican gubernatorial candidate Joey Gilbert’s effort to re-do the 2022 primary election, finding that “no competent evidence” was presented that would warrant the extraordinary changes Gilbert sought.

Carson City is incredibly grateful for Congressman Mark Amodei’s efforts to ensure that the City’s Community Project Funding request for the Appion Way Improvement Project was included in the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee’s Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations bill.

More than 400 bills passed during the 2021 Legislative session, but not all become enforceable at the same time, with 19 of those laws came into effect on July 1, from changes to K-12 education to updated guidelines for cage-free chickens.
