Amodei secures more than $32M in community project funding for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District

U.S. Representative Mark Amodei (NV-02) issued the following statement July 7 after securing every Community Project Funding request submitted to the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations for Nevada’s Second District for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023:

“I applaud the Nevada entities that have successfully adhered to the strict guidelines provided by the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations to achieve the inclusion of 15 separate Community Project Funding requests in the FY23 federal spending bill to secure a combined total of $32,249,135 for Northern Nevada. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I was proud to advocate for and advance funding for critical projects in Nevada’s Second Congressional District, including funds for law enforcement efficiency, wastewater treatment, airport improvements, intersection safety, highway infrastructure advancements, small businesses development, medical school training equipment, and economic revitalization. The Appropriations Committee will now move forward to pass these measures on the House floor. I look forward to continuing our work with the U.S. Senate via the eventual conference process to ensure that the final FY23 funding bills are better as a whole, while including these important priorities.

“And for the pro-transparency crowd, a friendly reminder that these are not the outdated “earmarks” full of pet projects and pork, but funds for vital community projects. The entities requesting funding for these projects, state and local governments or eligible non-profit entities, have gone through a rigorous process to demonstrate clear community support and prove the specific intent of the funds and benefit to the local area. Further, Members of Congress cannot have any financial interests in the projects, and the requests must be made publicly available online before they are considered by the Committee.

“What this process represents is 100% focus on Nevada’s Second District, 100% participation in Appropriations Committee procedures, 100% entity due diligence, and 100% staff attention to detail, so naturally, with this strong team effort, we successfully were able to secure 100% of the Community Project Funding requests submitted to the Committee. $1,100,000, Appion Way Intersection Improvements, Carson City
This project includes traffic signal and intersection improvements at South Carson Street and Appion Way to incentivize and encourage economic revitalization and increased commercial investments in an underdeveloped area.

$1,385,000, Kahle Drive Complete Street, Douglas County
This project allows for the transformation of Kahle Drive by improving storm water drainage, upgrading outdated water mains and hydrants, and adding sidewalks, bike lanes, crosswalks, and intersection safety improvements, among other things.

$4,369,300, Wastewater Treatment Plant Dewatering Press, City of Fallon
This project will support the installation of a volute dewatering press at the City of Fallon’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to more effectively process the biosolids generated from the treatment processes at the plant, allowing the City of Fallon to eliminate some of its lagoons and to effectively manage and operate its WWTP.

$4,000,000, Lemmon Drive Reconstruction, RTC Washoe
This project funds the reconstruction of 3.7 miles of Lemmon Drive to improve safety, pedestrian accessibility, and general connectivity for communities North of Reno.

$4,000,000, Coleman Road Connector, Churchill County
This project funds the construction of new roadway with a 125-foot span bridge across the Carson River in Churchill County to provide safer roadways and improved access to central commercial areas.

$3,589,000, Reno Tahoe Airport Terminal Road Improvements, Reno Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA)
This project reconstructs existing portions of the Terminal Loop Road at RNO and includes other safety and ADA improvements.

$3,000,000, Spanish Springs Nitrate and Arsenic Treatment Plant, Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA)
This project will support the design of the Spanish Springs nitrate and arsenic treatment plant, which provides the Truckee Meadows Water Authority the flexibility for seasonal operation of the wells, benefitting the local community and serving approximately 18,000 residents.

$2,000,000, Lake Tahoe Instrumentation and Data Sharing, Desert Research Institute (DRI)
This project will allow for research to be conducted on hydrologic and atmospheric data and for the creation of an open data platform to increase access to scientific research and establish best management practices for Lake Tahoe.

$2,000,000, Northern Nevada HOPES Clinic, Washoe County
This project will aid in the construction of a new Federally Qualified Health Center in Reno, NV that will provide integrative care to 12,000 underserved adults, including primary care, chronic disease management, group behavioral health treatment, medication assisted treatment for opioid users, laboratory testing, insurance enrollment, and pharmacy services.

$2,000,000, Rural Nursing Expansion and Renovation Project, Western Nevada College (WNC)
This project will support the development of a permanent instructional training space for its rural nursing cohort at the Fallon Campus.

$1,500,000, Booth Street Sewer Siphon, City of Reno
This project will replace the aging and undersized Booth Street sewer siphon and approximately 1,100 feet of un-reinforced concrete sewer main to meet the needs of ongoing growth in the Reno area and to ensure the continuation of the safe and healthy water supply for Reno residents.

$1,000,000, Lemaire Building Restoration, Lander County
This project will renovate a local historic building to house a Small Business Incubator that will provide small businesses and entrepreneurs with basics like office space, networking activities, and high-speed internet access.

$940,000, Great Basin College Health Science Lab Equipment, Great Basin College (GBC)
This project allows for funding to purchase needed lab and classroom equipment for Great Basin College’s Health Science Human Services department, which is launching two new credentialing opportunities with the Fall 2023 semester: (1) the Associate of Applied Science, Cardio-Respiratory Care Science degree (RT), and (2) the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy/EKG (MAPE) Certificate program.

$879,835, New River Feeders, City of Fallon
This project allows for the installation of two additional power circuits, known as the New River Feeders, in the New River Substation to ensure reliable and equitable access to public power utilities.

$486,000, Rapid DNA Instrument Procurement, Elko County Sheriff’s Office
This project would fund the purchase of a Rapid DNA instrument to help bolster law enforcement efficiency and improve community outcomes.
