Many teens looking for a jobs face the added challenge of finding work in during a recession.

Teen jobs have gone down since the mid 2000s, because more people — including out of work adults — are competing for the same jobs that traditionally went to teenagers.

Older workers are now commonly found working as grocery store baggers, fast food workers, amusement park staff, etc. Now that school is out more teens are looking for summer jobs.

According to the National Review
, Only 1 in 4 teens will score a job this summer. Many find work among family and friends because they can’t find a job. According to Examiner.com, The national jobless rate for workers ages 16 to 19 is 26.8 percent.

Fabiola Castillo, 16 is one of the teens affected by this recession. She is a full time high school student, but has a summer job working as a babysitter for her sister. She works 50 hrs a week out of her home and only makes $20 dollars for the week.

“Even though I don’t get paid very much I like my job,” said Fabiola Castillo “I get to play and take care of niece all day long.”

Sarah Woods, 16 is a teen who isn’t affected by the economy as much. In the summer Sarah works as a pet sitter. During the rest of the year she is a full time high school student. She usually makes about $20 dollars a day.

“I like my job because I love animals.” said Sarah Woods “I think it’s hard for teens to find a job right now because there just isn’t any jobs out there.”

Everybody hopes that the economy will get better and the future will bring better times and prosper job growth.

Today’s Teenagers are a bit discouraged of what the future will bring. When they complete there education will there be a job waiting for them?
