Members of the Rotary Club will learn more about the impact of both the club’s local foundation and The Rotary Foundation (TRF) at the organization’s upcoming meeting.

Steve Lewis, a member of TRF’s Global Fund Committee, will serve as the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 West King Street in Carson City. The public is invited to attend.

During his presentation, Lewis will outline how The Rotary Foundation and The Local Rotary Foundation support projects and initiatives that benefit communities worldwide. “I think people would be amazed that a group of local community leaders and volunteershave amassed such prosperity since our Foundation’s inception back in June of 1983,” Lewis said. “That has led to more than 500 thousand dollars in investments in our local community.”

He went on to explain how some of the money has been spent.  “We donated 200 thousand dollars towards the betterment of our then newly constructed Cancer Center in the early 2000’s, as well as more than 300 thousand invested in annual four-year scholarships to local ‘2nd chance’ students to attend Nevada colleges.” He pointed out two recipients that stood out to him.  “We helped a formally physically abused mother who lived with her three kids in a local motel room. She was selected to participate in our Club’s ScholarSTEPS program is now a registered nurse and living in her own home here in Carson City.” He also recalled a how that program help a military vet.  “He took some wrong turns due to PTSD but was later offered our Rotary Foundation’s four-year ScholarSTEPS scholarship and is now a productive State employee here in Carson City and a homeowner with a new family.”

Lewis says he’s looking forward to sharing more information at the meeting.
