A winter storm continues to bring periods of heavy Sierra snow and valley rain to the region and will continue through at least Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Lake Tahoe and Sierra through 10 a.m. Monday morning. Additional accumulations of 1 to 2 feet of snow is expected above 7,000 feet with up to 3 feet along the highest peaks. At lake level, 4 to 12 inches is possible, with up to 16 inches for mountain communities along, and west of, Highway 89.

If traveling, see NVroads.com or call 5-1-1 for the last traffic conditions and motorist delays.

Forecasters say the storm will persist Sunday and linger and through Monday with gusty winds in the Sierra and valleys areas. With snow levels falling this morning, forecasters say there’s a chance for snow to the foothills and have not ruled out a lesser potential for snow showers down to valley floors.

By Monday morning, forecasters say there may be snow down to the valley floors. Snow amounts would be limited to around a trace, with a 60 percent chance of that amount, according to the weather service.

As for foothills, such as the area around Virginia City, there’ s a 20 percent chance to get up to 2 inches of snow, which would be on the higher end of totals for the area.
