Throughout construction, at least one access point to businesses will be maintained during normal business hours. Drivers traveling through the area should watch for signage and follow posted traffic control to safely access businesses.

As construction continues on the East William Street Project, Carson City Public Works encourages the community to visit businesses located along the corridor more now than ever. Restaurants, shops, and service providers remain open and accessible during construction, and community support is essential to helping businesses continue to thrive while improvements are underway.

“Local businesses are a vital part of this corridor and our community,” said Carson City Public Works City Engineer Darren Anderson. “Even with construction underway, these businesses are open and accessible. Now is the time to show your support — visit, shop, dine, and use the services along East William Street.”

Throughout construction, at least one access point to businesses will be maintained during normal business hours. Drivers traveling through the area should watch for signage and follow posted traffic control to safely access businesses. One local business, Saltwater Tavern, has taken a creative approach to staying visible during construction by installing a giant skeleton along William Street as a fun and eye-catching reminder that they are open and ready to welcome customers.

Construction Progress

The East William Street Project is improving the corridor between Carson Street and the I-580 interchange with upgraded utilities, roadway reconstruction, new sidewalks, bike lanes, a multi-use path, improved lighting, and landscaping. The majority of the underground utility work is now complete. Remaining utility work is primarily between Mills Park and Humboldt Lane. Concrete work between Carson Street and Roop Street is also nearly complete. Roadway milling and repaving between Carson Street and Roop Street is planned for summer 2026, weather permitting. The full project is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
