Carson High School Speech and Debate Students participated in the 4th regular tournament of the Northern Nevada Forensics League this past weekend at Reno High School. The tournament was held December 6-7 and saw 150 competitors, 60 judges, and 13 schools. 

The team has had a very successful season, coached by Mrs. Jill Shufelt of Pioneer (satellite campus of CHS). She was an active competitor in high school and has been a coach for 5 years. The team has grown exponentially from her leadership. 

 

Speech:

In Poetry Oral Interpretation: Lilly Barker took 5th and Makala Heyder took 2nd 

In novice Impromptu: Fernando Garcia took 4th

In senior Impromptu: Claire Dillon took 4th

In senior Original Oratory: Nasia Perkins took 4th and Summer McGill took 2nd 

In novice Humorous Interpretation: Erick Martinez took 6th

In novice Foreign Extemporaneous: Garin Snidow took 6th

 

Debate:

In senior Big Questions Speaker Points: Zion Brown took 10th

In senior Public Forum Speaker Points: Summer McGill took 8th, Kyle Allen took 5th, Makenzie Merrell took 4th and, Nasia Perkins took 1st

In novice Lincoln Douglas Speaker Points: Garin Snidow took 4th

In senior Lincoln Douglas Speaker Points: Lexi Ropp took 10th and Tommy Lance took 5th 

In Policy Speaker Points: Erick Martinez took 2nd and Kaden Sa took 1st

In senior Public Forum Debate:  Partners Makala Heyder and Claire Dillon, and partners Kyle Allen and Makenzie Merrell made it to the semi-finals rounds and tied for 3rd place. Nasia Perkins and Summer McGill made it to the final round and took 2nd 

In Policy Debate: Erick Martinez and Kaden Sa took 1st
