The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department would like to make trail users aware that there have been some recent incidents of coyotes attacking dogs. It appears most of these incidents have occurred on the trails in east Carson City, specifically at the Riverview Park Wetlands Trail, Empire Ranch Trail, and the Mexican Ditch Trail.

Parks officials have posted warning signs on these trails advising dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash, and to report any interactions or incidents they may have with coyotes at these locations, or any other local trails.

Users are encouraged to be observant and alert regarding their pet at all times, and to make sure your dog is current on their vaccinations before taking them on any trails. It is best to try and avoid the very early morning hours, especially before dawn, and the dusk and nighttime hours when walking your dogs on any trails. This is when the coyotes are most active.

For further information or to make a report, please contact Scott Fahrenbruch, Deputy Director of the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, at (775) 283-7340.
