UPDATE 2PM: The fire off Goni Road in the northern end of Carson City is estimated at 25 acres, per the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). According to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which monitors fires in the region along with Duty Watch, advises that “Be Ready” evacuation advisories have been issued for the area depicted in green in the screenshot below.

They also advise that air attacks are over the fire including helicopters. Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) and Large Air Tankers (LATs) are en route per radar.

UPDATE 1:35PM: The vegetation fire burning near Goni Road on Friday afternoon is around 3 acres, fire officials said. The fire is growing due to gusty winds. There are currently no structures threatened, according to Carson City Fire Department. People are advised to avoid the area and to not stop along roadways to watch the operations.

UPDATE 1:21PM: Carson City Fire Department and other agencies were called Friday afternoon to a brush fire in the Goni Hills area, which is reportedly spreading due to windy conditions. There is a Red Flag Warning in effect today for Carson City and surrounding counties.

Multiple agencies have responded with brush engines. The fire is being fueled by gusty winds, according to firefighters on scene. It is unknown at this time if there are any structures threatened. We will update as information becomes available.

The fire was reported at around 12:45 p.m. and was said to be burning along a hillside. It is unknown at this time if homes or buildings are threatened. Multiple agencies have responded to the brush fire, which appears to be growing in size. Multiple brush units are responding, including those fire units from outside agencies.
