During a press conference Thursday afternoon, Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope confirmed that the father of 19-year-old stabbing suspect Adam Miller was killed during the attack, and his mother remains hospitalized. The names of the parents have not yet been released by law enforcement, but according to records obtained by Carson Now, the father was 73 years old, and the mother 61. Pope said the couple are Miler’s adoptive parents.

Adam Miler, 19, is a suspect in the stabbing of his parents.

“She is expected to survive,” Pope added, referring to his mother.

Pope said they still have reason to believe Miller is in the same clothing, red sweatpants and a black t-shirt, that he was spotted fleeing the scene in Wednesday morning. He was also only wearing one shoe at the time.

Pope said no one has reported missing clothing or blankets from any cars or RVs within the area.

Schools in the area announced bus services would be suspended while the suspect remains at large.

This is not the first time Miller has had issues with law enforcement. Pope said there is an active case being investigated against Miller right now, so he cannot comment on it, and alluded to the fact that there had been incidents with Miller as a minor, but those records are sealed.

It is believed Miller is in the neighborhood area of:

  • Sweetwater Rd
  • Richards Way
  • Drayer Ln
  • Park Ct
  • Smithridge Ln
  • Barndale Rd
  • Alta Vista Way

These areas are under a shelter in place as SWAT teams search.

They believe Miller to be in the area based on a cell phone ping after his phone was turned back on sometime overnight near Cottonwood Elementary School. It has continued to ping on and off repeatedly, indicating that someone is manually powering it on and off, according to Pope.

Pope said they are investigating all tips that come in, and asked the community to “keep the tips coming.”
