A 46-year-old jail inmate was booked Tuesday for suspicion of felony battery by a prisoner, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office report.

Jail deputies were alerted to the trustee pod for a possible fight. Deputies went to the area and observed Ruben Gabriel Ordaz and an inmate standing in close proximity to each other engaging in what appeared to be a verbal altercation.

Ordaz was taken to a multipurpose room where the deputy observed a mark/abrasion on his forehead and right cheek and redness around the neck. He stated he wasn’t going to be called names and treated poorly, the report states.

Deputies then spoke with the other prisoner, who had a cut on his upper chin and a cut on his upper lip. He stated he did not remember what happened and was just cleaning.

Deputies reviewed video footage and observed the victim inmate spraying what appeared to be air freshener around the pod. Inmate Ordaz appeared to get frustrated, stating that he was sick and didn’t want to be around the spray, according to the report. The inmate stopped spraying the air freshener around where Ordaz was on his bunk and moved to a different area and began to spray.

Ordaz continued to argue with the inmate about the spray, at which point he exited his bunk and advanced toward the victim inmate, initiating a verbal confrontation. The two argued back and forth for a short time and Ordaz backed up and jumped back into his bunk. The victim inmate called him a name where Ordaz again exited his bunk. He advanced toward the victim and the two engaged in a physical altercation. It appeared both parties engaged in several punches. Ordaz broke away and backed away and the two began to argue again, the report states.

Ordaz then advanced toward the victim and shoved him again with open palms. The victim continued to attempt to back away. At this point, deputies entered the pod and the two were separated, the report states.

Based on the findings and video footage, Ordaz was booked for alleged felony battery by a prisoner simple assault. Bail: $30,000.

— A 66-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspected DUI.

According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of East Fifth Street regarding a suspected intoxicated driver attempting to leave a liquor store parking lot.

Deputies made contact with the reporting party who stated the man was was attempting to leave and operate his motor vehicle. Deputies learned the suspect was slurring his words, stumbled and acting erratic while walking around the parking lot.

Deputies reviewed video footage provided by the reporting party showing the suspect getting a jump start from another vehicle, then walked into the liquor store and back out to his car where he attempts to leave, the report states. The reporting party stated the suspect’s vehicle did move from the parked position and rolled forward briefly. Due to the observation, the reporting party pulled her vehicle in front of the man so that he could not leave his vehicle.

During the video footage, deputies observed the suspect stumbling and slouching while walking back and forth from his vehicle. The vehicle was on and he was in the driver’s seat. The deputy asked the reporting party if she would be willing to fill out a written statement and sign a citizen arrest for which she stated she would, the report states.

Deputies met with the suspect and asked questions. He had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath while speaking. He was asked if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages that day. He admitted he had two alcoholic beverages around 2 p.m.

Field sobriety tests were submitted and he showed signs of impairment on the tests. He was read the request for voluntary evidence and chose a blood test. Bail: $1,137.

— A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misdemeanor possession of a firearm under the influence.

According to the report, deputies responded to a West Winnie Lane apartment complex to investigate a report of domestic battery.

After callouts by deputies, the man appeared on the north side of the complex with his hands in the air as if he was surrendering. Deputies immediately noticed a firearm located in the man’s right front pocket, the report states. He was detained where deputies could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The man was asked if he had any alcoholic beverages that night. He stated he had three shots before leaving his home on foot. He submitted to a preliminary breath test of .244, according to the report.

He was read a request for evidentiary testing of blood or breath and consented. He provided evidentiary samples of .181 and .183. He was booked for intoxicated person in possession of a firearm. Bail: $1,137.

— A 34-year-old man was booked into Carson City Jail on Tuesday for a misdemeanor warrant alleging grand larceny. Bail: $5,000.
