With more than 1,000 toys donated and $1,700 spent last week, a Carson City motorcycle club met Sunday morning to prepare and distribute toys and gifts to local organizations and families in need during the Christmas holiday.

A tradition among local motorcycle clubs over the past 41 years, it was the first year for the Lords of Iron motorcycle club, which collected more than 1,000 toys and raised $1,700 as part of the annual capital city Toy Run for local children.

The Sunday distribution was at Carson Custom Cycles, where members of the motorcycle club bagged and distributed toys and other gifts to the Northern Nevada Dream Center, Boys and Girls Club, Nation’s Finest and Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Daniel “Witchdoctor” Dargel, one of the organizers of the toy run, explained how this was the first year for the club doing it and said the support has been phenomenal. He added that there were suggestions the club learned along the way that helped them for this year’s run and toy distribution.

“One of the hardest things to find are donations for young people between the ages of 12 and 17. Everything is welcome and we enjoy bringing toys to children and love and appreciate the donations,” said Dargel. “These ages though are a little harder to find and they are often overlooked. That’s where we spent a lot of the money and bought items along the higher age scale — things like earbuds and gift cards. For next year’s run we will be able to expand these and other suggestions to take with us.”
