A local tradition that spans 41 years in Carson City, members of a local motorcycle club have once again collected more than 1,000 toys as part of the annual capital city Toy Run for local children.
Carson City’s Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club has led the charge for this year’s event, its first year doing it, with the Nov. 8 Toy Run, gifts donated this holiday season into boxes throughout the city and money collected to buy toys, which members did this Saturday at Walmart.
The gifts will be distributed this Sunday, Dec. 14 at Carson Custom Cycles, 3406 Centennial Park Drive, Suite B in Carson City beginning at 10:30 a.m.
“This is our community. This is our home,” said Chris “CMFW” Wade, who helped coordinate this year’s Toy Run along with Steve “NOTTZ” Williams, James Archdekin and Daniel Dargel of Battle Born Harley-Davidson.

The toy run itself was Nov. 8, where the motorcycle club began to collect toys and set out collection boxes. The Toy Run started at Carson Custom Cycles and included a breakfast. Riders then took off and made a loop around Carson City, riding through downtown and then ending the run at Battle Born Harley-Davidson.
Following the Toy Run, there was also a big barbecue at Tap Shack, in which the owners of the bar threw for the event. The event included a live band, where the motorcycle club set up a barbecue and sold burgers to raise money for this year’s Carson City Toy Run.
“Tap Shack supplied all the food for the barbecue, the place, the parking lot; they promoted it and all they did was collect a small amount, donating the majority to our pile of funds for the purchase of more toys, with close to $500 raised,” said Williams. “The Tap Shack has been a huge part of this. They deserve a lot of credit for our fundraiser.”
Williams explained the Carson City Toy Run is where riders bring toys with them strapped to their bike, while riding together as part of the run. At the end of the run, the riders packed a truck with toys. There were around 60 riders who showed up for the Nov. 8 run.
“It really showcases turnout and the public that comes out to support local children in need and those organizations that sometimes get forgotten about,” said Wade.
Those organizations that will receive Christmas toys and donations are Advocates to End Domestic Violence, the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and the Northern Nevada Dream Center.
Williams noted the amount of toys collected thus far has been huge, with nearly 1,000 toys donated, which have been sitting in the bed of a truck since the Nov. 8 run. And the toys keep pouring in, he said, with several collection boxes still getting filled.

Following the Nov. 8 Toy Run, members of the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club shopped this Saturday, Dec. 6, at Walmart as part of the collection event, which is an undertaking, using cash collected to buy toys for local children.
With shopping carts to fill and $1,700 to spend, the motorcycle club purchased more toys, which then will be distributed this Sunday, Dec. 14 at Carson Custom Cycles, 3406 Centennial Park Drive, Suite B in Carson City beginning at 10:30 a.m.
All of the toys will be on display Sunday, as well members from each organization that the toys and donations are being presented to — Northern Nevada Dream Center, Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and Advocates to End Domestic Violence.
