Carson City again saw a drop in its October unemployment figures, while Reno’s rate held steady at 4.5 percent. The capital city’s rate as well as Las Vegas registered at 5.5 percent for the month, according to stats released Nov. 22 by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.The September unemployment rate for Carson City was 5.6 percent.

Five counties statewide saw a decrease in the unemployment rate, said Bill Anderson, Chief Economist with the Research and Analysis Bureau of the state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

“While Las Vegas and Reno experienced slight job losses, all barometers of the Silver State’s economic health still point to continuing improvement,” Anderson said. “Additionally, as we head into the holiday season, jobseekers can look forward to a rise in employment Statewide.”

Las Vegas experienced a seasonally-adjusted loss of 2,600 jobs this month, but gained 16,400 jobs over the year. Reno/Sparks lost 400 jobs over the month, but gained 7,300 jobs relative to October 2015. Year over year, a total of 28,800 jobs were added statewide.
