UPDATE 5:20PM: A battery fire Tuesday afternoon at a north Carson City industrial business on Metric Way was quickly contained by a “really robust suppression system” onsite and trained employees, said Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. There were no injuries.
Just before 3 p.m. Carson City Fire Department was called to a fire at the business after initial reports were that there was an explosion and people trapped. This prompted a full response by Carson City Fire Department and mutual aid from Central Lyon Fire, East Fork Fire and Truckee Meadows Fire.
However, by the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the building’s fire suppression system and the work of trained employees had managed to have the fire contained, said Pedrini.
“The system they had in place did its job,” he said.
The battery fire was not lithium ion based, which was of particular concern among fire crews responding to the scene. It was determined that it wasn’t the highly combustible lithium ion, said Pedrini.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
