Exactly five months ago on June 7, 2025 47-year-old Benjamin Cole was arrested at the Bailey’s Fishing Pond near Fuji Park in Carson City on assault with a deadly weapon charges after threatening to kill park patrons with a large knife.
Now, Cole has been arrested again at Bailey’s Fishing Pond after attacking or threatening multiple fishermen with a knife, including a 70-year-old man and at least one juvenile.
According to the most recent arrest report, Cole was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the pond near Fuji Park Thursday afternoon at around 12:45 p.m.
Dispatch advised the man with the knife, later identified as Cole, was wearing a black hoodie with blue pants. While deputies on scene were speaking with dispatch, Cole yelled at deputies, “You got something to say?” and the reporting deputy said Cole matched the description dispatch was providing.
The reporting deputy said that Cole began walking towards the deputies “as if he wished to fight,” so the deputy placed him at gunpoint and ordered him to the ground “several times.”
Cole then “grabbed the wooden fence and dropped down to his knees,” then attempted to throw dirt at deputies and spit in their direction. He said “Fuck you!” and “refused to lie on his stomach as ordered.”
The reporting deputy said every time they would give him a command, he would yell at them.
During the incident, he allegedly yelled a number of things at deputies, including that he “put a child molester in the water,” said “no bitch, you don’t command shit from me,” “you haven’t detained me,” and “no bitch, I don’t have a firearm, fire, fire!” according to the report.
A sergeant arrived on the scene and shot Cole with his taser, causing Cole to lie flat on the ground.
While attempting to gain control of Cole’s arms, Cole “refused,” and the reporting deputy stated they “gave a light knee strike to the lower back, upper buttocks area,” and Cole finally put his arm behind his back, where he was put into handcuffs.
While searching his person, deputies located a white metal folding knife in his rear pocket.
Contact with victims
While leaving the pond after fishing, the first victim said that he’d seen Cole “yelling at nothing.” As the victim drew closer, the man was waving a knife and “yelling profanities about the little kids.”
Deputies said the victim “sensed danger” when Cole walked quickly at him, and the victim asked him if he was all right. Cole told the victim to “walk the other way,” but the victim said he did not want to turn his back to him.
Cole struck the victim on the forehead with the butt of his knife and pushed him into the shrubs. The victim said he was able to leave after he was pushed down.
Deputies noted that the victim is 70 years old and was bleeding from the forehead and had scrapes on his body.
Another victim (Victim 2) said he watched the incident between Cole and Victim 1. He said he approached Victim 1 and asked if he was all right, and Cole pulled a 3- to 4-inch “buck” style knife on him. He said Cole told him to back off while pointing the knife at him, then grabbed his fishing vest and threw it into the pond. He said he walked away and retrieved his vest, then went to the far side of the pond and called 911. He said while he was on the phone with 911, Cole approached a young man standing on the dock and pointed his knife at him.
Victim 3 told deputies Cole walked up to the pond “yelling something about child molesters.”
Editor’s note: Due to names being redacted from the report due to victim privacy, it’s not immediately clear which victims were pushed/shouted at/threatened, but we will provide the facts of the report as accurately as we can.
Victim 3 said Cole accused an individual of being a child molester, then shoved an individual into the bushes (may refer to Victim 1). Victim 3 advised he and a fly fisherman walked over to check on Victim 1, then Cole started threatening an individual (may refer to Victim 2) with his knife.
Victim 3 said Victim 2 and the fly fisherman backed off while Victim 2 attempted to call 911.
Victim 3 said Cole turned his attention to him, “counted to three on his fingers,” then walked up to Victim 3 and told him to put his phone away at knife point.
Victim 3 said he put his phone in his pocket, and Cole stood approximately a foot from him with the knife up and near his cheek. He said Cole started yelling “do you know who the fuck I am?” and Victim 3 advised they did not know who he was. Cole told Victim 3 to “say your name.” Cole continued yelling at Victim 3, and when he walked away, Victim 3 called 911. Deputies noted that Victim 3 “broke down and started crying” while being interviewed.
Deputies made a note that none of the victims knew each other, or the suspect.
Other deputies interviewed witnesses and victims while the reporting deputy asked dispatch to provide a search for wants and warrants.
Dispatch advised Cole is on probation with the state for an assault with a deadly weapon from June 2025.
Parole and Probation advised they would place a hold on Cole for probation violation.
The deputy noted that “upon further research the arrest from June was for similar circumstances.”
No bail.
Editor’s note: This reporter searched previous arrests in our database and located the original arrest report that showed Cole was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon on June 7 at the Fuji Park fishing pond for threatening fishing patrons with a knife.
During that incident, the victim said Cole “rolled out from behind a tree” with a large fixed-blade knife, stabbed the tip of the blade into the ground, and shouted “I’m going to kill you, ni**er,” then told him “if you say anything, I will kill you.” The man said he fled and called 911.
Given the fact that Cole is on probation, it indicates that he pled down his initial June 7 felony and was released on probation for that charge.
